Double Chance: Norwich And Draw

Does form matter going into the play-offs? Some say yes, and some say no. Certainly, in the case of both Norwich and Leeds, it would be fair to say respective managers David Wagner and Daniel Farke will be saying no, or at least hoping so! Norwich head into this first leg winning once in six and twice in seven, whereas Leeds have recorded one victory in six and two in eight.

There is no doubting Leeds have simply looked different since returning from the international break in March. They’ve lost more matches in their previous six than in the 21 before that in all competitions. Some suggest the pressure has got to them, but it will increase for these play-off battles. They finished in third, so naturally they are deemed favourites to win promotion. However, Norwich are super strong at Carrow Road and are difficult to oppose. It is 16 without loss in all competitions, including points over rivals Ipswich, Southampton and West Brom.

Gabriel Sara To Score

There are three standout players from an offensive point of view in the Norwich side, one of which is Gabriel Sara. He, with Josh Sargent and Jonathan Rowe, are far and away the biggest contributors to goals and assists. Those statistics combined see Sara at the top of the list; he has been directly involved in approximately 32% of their league goals.

Although signed primarily as a creative player, he has added goals to his game on a more consistent basis. This is already the best scoring season of his career with 14 in all competitions. His ability to pick up pockets of space in and around the final third makes him a huge threat and with Leeds keeping one clean sheet in eight the Brazilian is backed to improve upon his scoring record of six in his last 10.

Under 3.5 Goals

Once again, this brings back the question about the merits of form heading into the play-offs. Currently, these two teams are not necessarily used to winning, so the prospect of a cagier contest is rated greater. Plus, this isn’t just the play-offs, but the Championship play-offs, with a Premier League place up for grabs at the end. Neither side would be completely unhappy with a draw here, whilst there could be plenty of respect on show where the two essentially cancel one another out.

The League One and Two play-off first legs averaged 2.25 goals, which is a handy comparison to have at this point. The tactical aspect of this is fascinating and all will be revealed in the early stages. Expecting no goals isn’t likely, but one, two or three strikes are more predictable than a lot more in this high-pressure clash. Whoever scores first would probably prioritise not conceding instead of pushing for a second.

Half Time: Norwich

Both clubs will be feeling the pressure here, as will all teams heading into the play-offs, but it just comes with the territory when playing for Leeds. Combined with their recent struggles and how they essentially threw away their shot at automatic promotion, it is hard to be confident in them. The Elland Road side are deemed favourites to win this tough away clash, opening the door to many opportunities to get Norwich on side in different ways.

One of which is to back The Canaries to be leading at half-time. Given their super strong home record they will surely look to put a somewhat vulnerable opponent under immediate pressure. Over their last 11 at home in all competitions, City have netted 13 first-half goals so they’re no strangers to starting fast in front of their supporters.
