Tuesday 8pm: Bolton v Barnsley
League One Play Off Semi Final Second Leg at The Toughsheet Community Stadium
TV: Sky Sports Main Event
Under 2.5 Goals
Bolton come into the second leg in complete control of the tie thanks to their 3-1 victory on Friday. The result allows them to dictate their home leg which will suit them considering the only team to beat them at The Toughsheet Community Stadium in 2024 is Premier League side Luton in the FA Cup.
Barnsley will want to score early if they have any chance of overturning the two-goal deficit and manager Martin Devaney has said his side will come out firing from the first whistle. However, Bolton will set up to counteract their opponents, and with no real need to push for another goal, they will look just to keep the Tykes at bay.
Therefore, I don’t expect this to be a goal-fest, so I am backing Under 2.5 Goals.
Draw
The task for Barnsley on Tuesday night is huge and all the statistics go against them. The visitors are winless in their previous seven games, drawing only two. Meanwhile, Bolton are on an eight-game unbeaten run and boast the best home record in League One.
With a 3-1 advantage, Bolton do not need to push for the victory, whilst the Tykes will do everything they can to reduce the deficit and give themselves a chance. But with the two games in the league ending in draws and Barnsley throwing away the lead in both, I can’t see them getting the job done. Therefore, I’m backing a Draw.
John McAtee To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target
One of Barnsley’s biggest attacking threats this season has been striker John McAtee. The forward bagged 15 goals in all competitions this season, including 12 in League One. They will need him to be in top form if they are to have a chance of qualifying.
The visitors will set up to attack from the off and McAtee will be heavily involved in most. He will likely be on the end of several chances and I expect him to test Nathan Baxter in the Bolton goal. Therefore, I am backing John McAtee To Have 1 Or More Shots On Target.
Daniel Nlundulu To Commit 2 Or More Fouls
Bolton are likely to make several fouls on Tuesday night as they look to keep Barnsley at bay and no Wanderers player is more likely to commit more than Daniel Nlundulu. The midfielder averages 2.11 fouls per 90 minutes, putting him in the top percentile in League One.
With Bolton likely to set up more defensively, I expect him to at least equal that average. Therefore I’m backing Daniel Nlundulu To Commit 2 Or More Fouls.
