West Ham v Liverpool
Premier League match at the London Stadium, London
TV: TNT Sports, Saturday, 12:30pm

Over 3.5 Goals

Both Liverpool and West Ham are in danger of finishing their seasons with a whimper. Any hopes Liverpool had of winning the Premier League surely disappeared following their 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, while back-to-back defeats against Fulham and Crystal Palace have all but ensured that West Ham will finish outside the European places this season.

The Hammers have won just once in their last six Premier League games in a period that has also seen them exit the Europa League in the last eight.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have dropped eight points in their last four league games as well as bowing out of Europe’s secondary competition. Defensive issues have been Liverpool’s undoing at this most crucial stage of the season. Jurgen Klopp’s side have not kept a league clean sheet in any of their last seven games, while they have kept just two clean sheets in 15 league games in 2024.

West Ham, meanwhile, have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last 14 league outings, conceding 31 goals in the process. They have conceded the fourth-highest number of goals in the league this season and all signs point to a high-scoring affair on Saturday afternoon.
Liverpool won the reverse fixture 3-1 back in October and it would be something of a surprise if there weren’t at least four goals scored on Saturday as well.

Liverpool Goalkeeper to make 3 or more Saves

So often rock solid at the back, Liverpool are as porous as they have ever been since Virgil Van Dijk joined the club. The Reds have faced at least five shots on target in all of their last four league games, with almost every one of their opponents finding space that they would not have found earlier in the season.

For example, in an eight-game stretch between early December and February, Liverpool did not once face more than four shots on target in a Premier League game. Teams are now testing the Liverpool defence with alarming regularity and West Ham will surely aim to do so in a bid to put those two awful against Fulham and Palace behind them.

The Hammers should force Alisson into a number of saves on Saturday afternoon.

Over 6.5 Liverpool Corners

One area where Liverpool have not slowed down is their corner count. Klopp’s side has won 60 corners in six league games since the international break at a rate of exactly ten per game, hardly surprising considering they often find themselves behind and have to chase a game.

Liverpool also seem overly reliant on set pieces, scoring three of their last five league goals from set pieces and butchering most of the chances they create from open play.

They are certain to dominate possession against a West Ham side that boasts the fourth-lowest average in the league and they should put the West Ham goal under significant pressure.

West Ham to Commit 12 or more Fouls

West Ham actually boast one of the lowest averages in the league when it comes to fouls per game, averaging just over 10 fouls per 90 minutes. However, that average significantly rises when the Hammers take on one of the so-called Big Six.

In nine games against Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester City this season, West Ham have averaged exactly 12 fouls per game, conceding 13 fouls in the reverse fixture at Anfield.

That is hardly surprising, considering their tendency to drop deep and concede possession against the bigger teams. They are likely to spend much of Saturday’s game without the ball and there is a good chance that they will commit at least a dozen fouls.

Jarrod Bowen to have 1 or more Shots on Target

West Ham would be a lot worse off this season if it weren’t for Jarrod Bowen. He’s scored 15 league goals this campaign, more than double the tally of any other West Ham player, and has been by far their most important player this season.

Bowen scored in the 3-1 reversal at Anfield and is the most likely West Ham player to find the back of the net on Saturday. He is certainly the most likely to try his luck. He averages 2.3 shots per game in the league this season, the most of any West Ham player, and he is decent value to test Alisson at least once.
