Everton v Liverpool
Premier League match at the Goodison Park, Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Premier League/Main Event, Wednesday, 8pm
The final Merseyside derby of the season is upon us and there’s more than bragging rights at stake with Liverpool deep into a Premier League title challenge and Everton fighting to keep their place for next season. There’s always blood and thunder in the Merseyside derby and Wednesday’s game under the Goodison Park floodlights will be no different.
Liverpool -1
Everton have picked up two wins and two clean sheets in their past two home games but don’t let that stat fool you, they are miles off Liverpool and picked those wins up against relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest and Burnley.
In the past two months, we’ve seen West Ham, Manchester United, and most recently Chelsea beat them by at least two goals, and title-chasing Liverpool should repeat that here. Everton have scored fewer goals than anybody except for Sheffield United and Liverpool are the league’s second-highest scorers and have covered a -1 handicap in three of the past four meetings against the Toffees.
Mohamed Salah to Score or Assist
Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah is now 27 games deep into his Premier League season and he’s had 26 goal contributions. He’s found the back of the net 17 times and set up nine goals for his teammates, as he continues to have another impressive season.
He leads Liverpool in shots per game and ranks third in key passes. Not to mention the fact that he got a brace the last time these teams met. With Everton’s struggles, there’s a very real chance that Salah either scores, or creates, a goal this Wednesday.

Idrissa Gueye to Commit 2 or more Fouls
Idrissa Gueye scored Everton’s opener in their controversial win over Forest at the weekend but here we’re backing him to commit two or more fouls. He gave up just one foul against Forest but against a far superior Liverpool midfield, who’ll be throwing players forward, he should exceed it.
He’s played just 20 league games this season but has collected 31 cards. On a minute-by-minute basis, he’s averaging 1.88 fouls committed per 90 minutes. That should increase given the derby atmosphere and quality of the opposition.
Idrissa Gueye to be Shown a Card
If we’re going to see the Senegalese midfielder commit two or more fouls then it’s highly likely we’re also going to see him getting his name in Andy Madley’s book too. Madley is averaging 3.9 yellow cards per game, having dished out 78 across 20 games officiated this season.
Gueye has seven yellows this season, just one behind Jarrad Branthwaite and two behind James Tarkowski, despite playing 10 and 13 games less than each of them receptively. His 34-year-old legs might struggle against Liverpool’s midfield and he’ll have a tough evening.
Harvey Elliot to be Fouled 1 or more Times
It was a good performance against Fulham from Harvey Elliot with the 21-year-old picking up an assist. That’s likely to be enough to get him the start here and if he plays then he’s going to cause Everton issues, issues that are likely to see him get fouled.
He’s got a great range of passing and has started to look more of a threat this season, taking a real leap forward with his game. He won a foul against Fulham at the weekend and if he performs well again on Wednesday, he’s more than likely going to earn at least one more freekick.
