Dundee +2

Dundee host Rangers at Dens Park on what promises to be a nightmare of a pitch in a scenario that surely plays into the hands of the home side.

Saturday’s game against Motherwell barely went ahead, with only a last-minute decision giving the Dens Park surface the OK. It forced both teams to play in a more direct style than they are accustomed, and with Rangers the more technical team, Philippe Clement’s side will have to adapt more.

Indeed, this match can be viewed in isolation from the two previous wins the Gers have managed against the Dark Blues this season because of the surface but also because they face the challenge of recovering from a breakneck Old Firm draw with Celtic at the weekend.

Rangers will likely get the win, but it will be hard work.

Both teams to Score

Goals at both ends of the park look likely in this encounter. Dundee may be conceding regularly, but they are also scoring in virtually every match they play. Since being shut out at home in a 0-5 loss against Rangers on November 1, they have only once failed to find the net in a Premiership match.

The Gers’ defence isn’t at its best just now, either. Clement’s side have conceded in their last four league matches with their last clean sheet coming back in February. With the prospect of left-back Ridvan Yilmaz missing out, this promises to be another complicated evening.

4 or more Cards

These matches have been fiery affairs so far this season, with a total of 10 cards shown across the two games. Seven of these have been to Dundee players, with the Dark Blues priced at 1.57 to appear in the referee’s notebook more often in this game.

Again, the pitch is likely to play its part. With the ball not running smoothly and the surface slippery it will invite defensive mistakes, the type of which are likely to be severely punished by referee Don Robertson.

James Tavernier to Score

This is the type of match that has a James Tavernier goal written all over it for Rangers. It is the type of game in which they will need to dig deep and on so many occasions when the chips are down, it is Tavernier who gets them out of a hole.

The right-back’s incredible scoring form is unrelenting. He has scored in his last four Premiership matches and has six in his last six. He has also netted in both previous matches against Dundee from the penalty spot.

11 Corners or more

No team in the Premiership concedes more corners than Dundee, who on average are giving up 7.2 per game at Dens Park.

With balls likely to be launched constantly into both boxes in this game because of the nature of the pitch, both defenses are likely to be forced into evasive action on numerous occasions.

Conditions should ensure there is a higher-than-normal corner count for both teams, and given 67% of Dundee’s home games this season have yielded 11 or more corners, this looks like an excellent value bet.
