Rangers +1

Rangers and Celtic meet in the most important Scottish Premiership match of the season to date at Ibrox. The two sides are locked together at the top of the standings, with the Hoops at the summit by virtue of having played a game more than their hosts.

Although Brendan Rodgers’ side have won both Old Firm matches played so far this season, they have ridden their luck. In a 0-1 win at Ibrox, they were well outplayed, while a red card to Leon Balogun helped them to a 2-1 victory at Celtic Park over the festive period.

Rangers are playing the better football at present and a sixth defeat in seven derby matches would be a crushing blow to their morale. Philippe Clement will not allow that to happen against a Celtic side that remains fragile.

(+1)

Over 2.5 Goals

Old Firm matches in the recent past have typically produced goals, even if Celtic have pinched a couple of 1-0 victories in the last 12 months. The other six matches between these teams have produced at least three goals.

Celtic look suspect defensively and appear unlikely to keep a clean sheet. Before shutting out bottom side Livingston last weekend, they had conceded in seven successive league games. Equally, though, they have scored at least three in four of their last five.

Rangers are similarly leaking the odd goal but scoring plenty themselves, adding to the sense that both these teams are more comfortable going forward than they are at the back. This is a recipe for a high-scoring game.

Matt O’Riley to Score or Assist

Denmark international midfielder Matt O’Riley is simply an enormous price to have a hand in a goal on Sunday. He already has two assists against Rangers this season and comes into this match as a man in form. The 23-year-old has two goals and four assists in his previous three matches for Celtic, underpinning his status as one of the most important players in the squad.

This run is no flash in the pan. O’Riley has 23 goals and assists this season, making him substantially Celtic’s most productive attacking player. He has already done it twice against the Gers this season and can make it a hat-trick.

Todd Cantwell to have 1 or more Shots on Target

Todd Cantwell is the only Rangers player to have managed a shot on target in both previous Old Firm matches this season, and the playmaker is seeking to complete a hat-trick in this game. Having returned from injury last time out, the Gers need the former Norwich man to be at his best.

He’s had a shot on target in eight of his last 10 starts and in both previous games against Celtic this season has had three efforts, with one finding the target.

Callum McGregor to Commit 2 or more Fouls

Callum McGregor is not generally one to be involved in the thick of the battle when it comes to giving away free kicks, yet the Celtic captain is liable to be heavily involved in this game.

Although he averages only 0.77 fouls against him per game, he has committed indiscretions in both previous Old Firm matches. In the previous match between these teams, he gave away an astonishing six free kicks.

It should be noted that he is an injury doubt, but Celtic will be doing everything to ensure he can play as he is one of their most important players. Reo Hatate, who has committed 1.8 fouls per 90 can be used at the same odds if McGregor doesn’t make it.
