Celtic -1

Celtic are expected to beat Livingston with some degree of comfort in this clash at the Tony Macaroni Arena, with previous matches between the sides strongly favouring the Parkhead outfit.

Five of the last six clashes between them have ended with the Hoops claiming a multiple-goal victory, while Livi have not been able to get close to Rangers this season either. Against the Premiership’s big two clubs, they have lost seven out of seven so this season, by at least two goals.

Expect a focused Celtic, following the international break, as they cannot afford to slip up in the title chase, and that spells bad news for a Livingston team that has lost four of its last five matches.

(-1)

Over 2.5 goals

While Livingston have based their longevity in the top-flight around a solid defensive record, that has evaporated this season. David Martindale’s side struggle to defend their box and that’s reflected by the fact they have conceded 14 goals in their last five matches.

Coming up against such a weak defensive side should have Celtic, the Premiership’s top scorers, licking their lips.

The Hoops have hardly been robust at the back themselves in recent times. They have conceded in each of their last seven league matches, and with Livi’s Tete Yengi having belatedly given them some scoring power, the prospect of the home team scoring shouldn’t be dismissed. As such, the odds on at least three goals being scored looks generous.

Daizen Maeda to score anytime

The stars seem to be aligning for Japan international Daizen Maeda to get on the scoresheet in this game. He was expected to be on the other side of the world until early this week, due to two matches against North Korea, but the latter of those games was postponed, giving him an early return.

That is great news for Celtic ahead of this trip, with Maeda having bagged a hat-trick against Livingston when the sides met earlier this month.

Having played the entirety of Celtic’s last three league matches, he should get a chance to add to his tally again, as he also netted in the September trip to West Lothian.

Matt O’Riley to score or assist

Denmark international Matt O’Riley has been a man in form for Celtic in recent weeks. With one goal and three assists in his last four starts for the Hoops, he’s been central to much of their best attacking play, while he has thrived previously against Livi as an attacking outlet.

In the previous trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena, he chalked up an assist, while he is the only player in the Premiership to have hit double figures in both goals and decisive passes this season. Expect him to improve that record here.

Celtic to win eight or more corners

Celtic have been prolific winners of corner kicks this season and that trend should continue against Livingston. Although they only managed 4 on their last visit to the Tony Macaroni, that should be caveated by the fact they played with 10 men for more than an hour of the game.

More realistic are their subsequent two matches against Martindale’s side. At Celtic Park, they won 14 corners in the league and seven in the cup.

Celtic are averaging 8.6 corners per away match this season and will expect to exert sufficient pressure on their hosts to increase that figure by the end of Sunday’s game.
