Rangers to win
Eliminated from the Europa League in midweek, Rangers must ensure there is no hangover in their Premiership performance when they visit Dundee at Dens Park. Edged out 1-0 by Benfica, the Gers ultimately lacked the attacking quality to breakdown the Portuguese outfit.
Philippe Clement could point to a depleted squad on that occasion, but against Dundee, the Gers should have too much in their locker. The Glasweigans have won their last seven matches against the Dark Blues, and their two wins in the fixture this season have come easily. A 5-0 win in the City of Discovery in November was followed by a 3-1 home success a couple of weeks before Christmas. While it’s uncertain how Rangers will react to their midweek setback, they should have enough to win this game against a Dundee side hit by numerous injury concerns.
Todd Cantwell to score anytime
One positive that Rangers could enjoy in midweek was the return to fitness of Todd Cantwell slightly ahead of schedule. The attacking midfielder only played a cameo role, but is liable to get a start as the team freshens up. Prior to his injury, he had scored five goals in nine matches and will carry a good deal of Rangers’ threat in this game too. With Kemar Roofe’s minutes set to be limited, as he is eased in gently after his own physical problems, the former Norwich City man should get ample opportunity in this one assuming he is fit enough.
Dundee to have 3 or more shots on target
Tony Docherty’s side will have a role to play in this match against a Rangers team that is fatigued and also troubled by injuries. Even having been outplayed in the two previous fixtures against the league leaders, they have at least carried some modest menace, managing seven shots on target across these fixtures. Rangers, meanwhile, have given up at least three shots on target in each of their last three league matches, up against Hearts, Kilmarnock and Motherwell. Given what the players have been through over the last few days, it would be little surprise to see their defensive standards drop in this match.
Fabio Silva to commit 2 or more fouls
Fabio Silva has done a lot of work for Rangers in recent weeks, and he will be asked to go to the well again on Sunday. The Portuguese attacker has committed an impressive 2.55 fouls per 90 he has played in the Premiership so far, showing no fear of getting involved in the physical side of the game since arriving in Scotland. This is the highest tally of any Rangers player who has turned out for more than the duration of a whole game. Look for this trend to continue at Dens Park.
