Bayer Leverkusen v Mainz
Bundesliga match at the BayArena, Leverkusen
TV: Sky Sports Mix, 7:30pm
Bayer Leverkusen -1
Bayer Leverkusen continue their march towards their first ever Bundesliga title. Xabi Alonso’s side are now eight points ahead of Bayern Munich at the summit of the league table, having won 18 and drawn four of their 22 league games this campaign.
They’ve scored at least three goals in seven of their last 10 at home in the league and face a Mainz side who have failed to win any of their away league games this season and have scored just three times over their last five on the road. The hosts should be winning this at a canter.
Over 2.5 Goals
As above really, Leverkusen have scored 10 over their last five in the league and 11 over their last five at home so you’d have to expect them to score at least two, and probably three. Mainz have scored in five of their last seven too so may hit on the target so we’re likely looking at a 2-1, 3-0, or 3-1 here so we’re going with Over 2.5 Goals.
Dominik Kohr to Commit 1 or more Fouls in the First Half
Mainz’s defence-minded midfielders are in for a rough Friday night here. Leandro Barreiro and Dominik Kohr will be forgiven for having a sleepless night on Thursday with the prospect of facing Leverkusen’s front six. Kohr is top of the list when it comes to bookings this season and averages 1.3 fouls per game.
Alonso’s side always begin on the front foot and we can certainly see Kohr coming at least one foul in the opening 45 minutes.
Bologna v Verona
Serie A match at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, Bologna
TV: TNT Sports, 7:45pm
Bologna to Win
Bologna are in mighty form of late, winning four of their last five in the league, drawing the other one. At home in the Serie A, they’ve lost just once this season, their first home game to AC Milan, since then they’ve 10 and drawn two, scoring a healthy 12 goals over their last five on home soil.
Verona have failed to win any of their last five fixtures and haven’t tasted victory over any of their last 12 away league games, losing four and drawing one of their last five. We have to side with the form team here, we’re backing Bologna to Win.
Leeds v Leicester
Championship match at Elland Road, Leeds
TV: Sky Sports Football, 8pm
Over 2.5 Goals
This Championship match should be an absolute banger. Leeds come into the game on a run of 11 games without defeat, winning four of their last five, drawing the other but winning it in Extra Time. At home in the league, they’ve won nine of their last 10, scoring 13 over their last five.
League leaders Leicester City have won four of theur last five in the league and have won three, drawn one, and lost one of their last five on their league excursions, scoring 11 goals. With both teams in such ripe goal-scoring form, Over 2.5 Goals has some very decent value on offer.
Metz v Lyon
Ligue Un match at the Stade Saint-Symphorien, Metz
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm
Lyon to Win
Second-from-bottom Metz have chalked up just four points from their last 10 in Ligue Un. On home soil, they’ve won one of their last five, losing the other four and failed to score in three of those matches. Lyon have won four and lost one of their last five in all competitions and should be grabbing the three points here against a side who are very low on confidence.
Real Sociedad v Villarreal
La Liga match at Reale Arena, San Sebastian
TV: Viaplay, 8pm
Under 2.5 Goals
It’s unlikely that we’ll see many goals here. Sociedad have scored a grand total of two foals over their last five matches and just three over their last five at the Reale Arena in league action. Villarreal have scored eight over their last five and eight over their last five on their travels.
Over their last 10 home/away games, only two have ended in a victory as well so it doesn’t exactly promise entertainment. A 0-0 or 1-1 wouldn’t surprise anyone so we’re backing Under 2.5 Goals.
