    Ross County +3.5 Goals Handicap

    Rangers are expected to simply steamroller Ross County when the sides meet in Scottish Premiership action on Wednesday, but while the home side are deservedly red-hot favourites to get the win, it might not be achieved with the ease that the bookies predict.

    After all, this match comes at a slightly awkward time for the Gers, who are presently juggling a deluge of fixtures and will soon have European football to contend with too. The carrot of going top is, admittedly, there with a big win, yet equally Philippe Clement appreciates that the league is a marathon.

    Rangers are not blowing teams away currently. Championship side Ayr were only dispatched 2-0 at the weekend, while the Gers’ last victory by more than three goals in the league was 13 games ago on November 1.

    County, meanwhile, will surely show some additional fight now that the unpopular Derek Adams has resigned off the back of a humiliating 5-0 loss against Motherwell a week ago. One of only two games they have lost this season by four or more goals.

    Over 2.5 Goals

    Five of Rangers’ last six league matches have produced at least three goals, and the tendency is for this game to continue that trend.

    The Gers are blessed with ample offensive options with which to rotate with, while Ross County have far more attacking potential than Adams was getting from the team.

    Eight of the last 10 between these sides have produced more than two goals, and it would be surprising if that trend was to be bucked in this encounter.

    With County having scored in five of their last eight matches against Rangers, backing both teams to score at 2.88 is also worth consideration.

    Cyriel Dessers to Score Anytime

    In line with the recent rotation employed by Philippe Clement, this should be Cyriel Dessers’ match to start. The Nigerian has swapped roles with Fabio Silves over the course of the last month and should feature from the beginning here – and there is every chance he will find the net.

    The 29-year-old might be a maligned figure around Ibrox but he has still scored at a regular lick since the beginning of November, with seven goals coming in his last 14 league appearances. Crucially, this equates to a goal roughly every 119 minutes of pitch time, and given he should get at least 70 minutes in this game, that is a healthy sign.

    Dessers will also have a point to prove after a poor display against Aberdeen last week, so expect him to be among the goals.

      Ross County to Receive the Most Cards

      Just as these clubs are at either end of the league table, they are also at opposite ends of the disciplinary table, with Rangers lying third from top and Ross County lying third from the bottom.

      The Gers have picked up only 31 cards this season, which is the fewest any team in the league has seen. There have only been 27 cautions given to Rangers players this season.

      That contrasts to the Highlanders, who have seen 50 bookings this term.

      Over 3.5 Cards

      Ross County need to show a reaction in this match, and that is liable to see them chalk up a significant yellow card count.

      Referee Alan Muir, meanwhile, is not typically an official to keep his cards in his pocket. Indeed, he has overseen Rangers twice in Premiership action this season and on both occasions there were at least four cards brandished.

      Furthermore, his history against Ross County points to the odds in at least four cautions being good. Twice he has officiated matches in which the Highlanders have played, with one of these producing 4 yellow cards and the other 3.

      With five of seven of the referee’s Premiership games this season seeing at least 4 cards flashed, look for more of the same here.
