The Champions League knockout stages start on Tuesday and we have a pair of games featuring two of the best teams on the planet. Manchester City face a trip to Copenhagen in a game they really should win, while Real Madrid have a slightly tougher task ahead against a good RB Leipzig team.
Copenhagen v Man City
Champions League match at Parken, Copenhagen
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm
Kevin De Bruyne to Score or Assist
There’s not much really left to say about Kevin De Bruyne at this point but there’s no coincidence that Man City’s return to form seems to have coincided with the return of KDB to the linup from injury.
The Belgian returned from injury in early January and has five assists and a goal in six games. We’re going to back him to continue his average of a goal or assist in every game here.
Man City -1
Pep Guardiola’s team are well and truly over their treble-winning hangover and are now back to playing like the best team on the planet once again. They’re a scary sight for any team they face but Copenhagen, a team who are just returning from a winter break, are third in their domestic league and conceded eight goals in six Champions League group games.
Man City have won each of their past three games by over a goal and against a side who, with the greatest of respect, are simply not their equal, they should win by two or three goals here.
Peter Ankersen to Commit 1 or more Fouls
Peter Ankersen has started four of the team’s six group games and is slated to start at right-back on Tuesday. Ankersen hasn’t been a prolifically dirty player at all this season but he is matched up against Man City’s left winger, which will be either Jeremy Doku or Jack Grealish.
Domestically these two players have been fouled 1.5 and 1.9 times per game respectively and will cause Ankersen problems with their dribbling, especially with the potential of the other player to come off the bench with fresh legs too.

Under 2.5 Goals
Jude Bellingham may only have moved to Real Madrid in the summer but there’s no doubt about it, he’s already the main man there, making his loss problematic for this game. There’s still some incredible players in the Real Madrid team but they lose one of their best goal threats without the Englishman and I think that could harm the chances of this game hitting Over 2.5 goals.
Combine the lack of Bellingham and the tendency for opening games in two-legged ties to be cagey and we have a recipe for Under 2.5 Goals. If you look at Real’s La Liga form then it’s noticeable three of their last four on the road have gone Under.
Vinicius Junior to be fouled 2 or more times
Over the past couple of seasons, we’ve seen Vinicius Junior develop into one of the world’s best attackers and he already has a handful of sensational Champions League displays under his belt. He’s the danger man for Real Madrid with his directness, pace, and movement, something that will terrify RB Leipzig.
So far this season we’ve seen Vinicius Junior fouled an average of 2.1 times per game in La Liga and I expect him to be taken down at least twice in this game. He has every attribute defenders don’t want to play against and often the only way to stop him is to do it illegally.
