Aberdeen +2

Rangers start as red-hot favourites to overcome Aberdeen when the sides meet at Ibrox on Tuesday, yet Aberdeen can make the trip south with some confidence after pushing Celtic hard at the weekend.

The Dons are under the interim management of Peter Leven following the sacking of Barry Robson late last week and will be buoyed by Monday’s appointment of everyone’s second favourite manager, Neil Warnock until the end of the season. Warnock is set to take the reigns following the clash with Rangers after confirming Leven will be taking the reigns at Ibrox for the clash.

Although there was not an overhaul in terms of their personnel at the weekend, there was a marked improvement in the performance of the Dons. Indeed, they were unfortunate not to get the win.

Aberdeen are also a team that tends to fare better against the stronger teams. Indeed, they have yet to lose to Rangers in the league this season, having won 3-1 previously at Ibrox before conceding a controversial late penalty in the Granite City to draw 1-1 when it seemed they would inflict a first defeat on Philippe Clement.

The Gers did win in the League Cup final 1-0, but they have not beaten the Dons by more than a single goal in any of their last seven meetings and only once in their last 11.

Aberdeen to Receive the Most Cards

Aberdeen are expected to become more competitive and aggressive in defence following the departure of Robson, who had them looking sometimes apathetic out of possession. This attitude was evident to some extent at the weekend as they picked up three yellow cards to Celtic’s one, and is liable to be vital if they are to compete in this clash. With the pressure of the home crown on the referee, this will have an impact.

The Dons have also seen 41 yellow cards this season in comparison to Rangers’ 27, with the Ibrox club having seen fewer cards than any other side in the league this season.

Cyriel Dessers to Commit 2 or More Fouls

No Rangers player has a crime count this season as high as centre forward Dessers, who is picking up on average 1.5 fouls per match. The Nigeria international striker is at his best when he is allowed to use his physicality to stretch opposing defences and inevitably that means he pushes the boundaries too much on occasion.

Dessers is particularly likely to get drawn into physical confrontations since the arrival of Clement, who plays more directly than Michael Beale. This only increases the chances of him committing a foul or two.

      Cyriel Dessers to Score

After a slow start to life at Ibrox, Cyriel Dessers has sprung into life over the past couple of months, scoring six goals in his last 11 league appearances. Often in these encounters, he has been used as a replacement, but after only being a substitute at the weekend, the odds are that he will start this match and get a large portion of it.

Dessers should come into this game fresh after playing 14 minutes against Livingston at the weekend, and after bagging the winning goal against St Mirren around 10 days ago, his confidence will be up.
