Brighton v Crystal Palace

Over 2.5 Goals

Whisper it quietly, but Brighton have now won just three of their last 16 Premier League games after making a phenomenal start to the season and winning five of their opening six games. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have failed to score in each of their last three league games and shipped four in a catastrophic display against Luton on Tuesday night.

They will hope to put their bad run of form to an end against a struggling Crystal Palace side on Saturday afternoon, simultaneously putting an end to a curious run of 1-1 draws between the two sides in the most lukewarm of derbies.

Curiously, six of the last nine meetings between Palace and Brighton have ended 1-1, but neither side have proved themselves defensively capable of such a low scoreline. Brighton have conceded 37 goals in 22 games this season, the worst of any team in the top half and one of the worst records overall in the league.

Palace, meanwhile, recorded a much-needed win over Sheffield United on Tuesday, but they made mighty hard work of it, conceding twice at home against the lowest-scoring side in the division. The Eagles have not kept a clean sheet in the league since November 4, a run of 11 games, so Brighton’s high-scoring attack should have plenty of joy at the other end.

Brighton to Receive the Most Cards

Brighton were the fifth-best-disciplined side in the league last season, receiving 58 bookings and no red cards in the entire 38-game season. That has totally flipped on its head this time around, with the Seagulls currently boasting the fifth-worst record in the league after receiving 54 bookings and two red cards in just 22 games.

They average well over two cards per game are likely to surpass the total number of cards they received last season by full-time on Sunday. Palace, on the other hand, are one of the best-disciplined sides in the division, receiving 37 yellow cards and one sending off.
Brighton are likelier to be the feistier of the two teams in Saturday’s derby.

Burnley v Fulham

Fulham to have 5 or more Shots on Target

Fulham have now failed to win in five games in all competitions, but it is not for want of trying. Marco Silva’s side have attempted 72 shots in their last five games, finding the target on 22 occasions for an average of around 4.5 per game.

On Saturday, they face a Burnley side that has conceded 45 goals this season – the second-most in the Premier League – and conceded an average of 15 shots per game – the sixth-highest average in the league.

Burnley have faced 31 shots on target in their last five league games, including five against Fulham when the sides met at Craven Cottage before Christmas. There is a good chance that Fulham record a similar number of efforts on goal on Saturday.

Newcastle v Luton

Both Teams to Score

Newcastle ended a run of four straight league defeats with a hugely impressive win at Aston Villa midweek but will have their work cut out against a much-improved Luton side on Saturday.

Despite winning that game, Newcastle again failed to keep a clean sheet, making it five games on the spin without one. Luton, on the other hand, have discovered how to score goals in the top division, scoring 16 goals in their last seven league games.

Their 4-0 win against Brighton capped off an impressive run of recent form and they have not failed to score in a league game since mid-November. Newcastle will be confident of breaching a defence that has not kept a clean sheet in any away league game this season, but Luton will be equally confident of continuing their hot streak in front of goal.

Over 10.5 Corners

Both Newcastle and Luton have won a similar number of corners this season, with Luton winning 114 from 22 games and Newcastle winning 106. Both average around five per game, but it is Newcastle who are likely to win more on Saturday afternoon.

Eddie Howe’s side are likely to dominate possession against Luton, who average just 37.9% possession this season – the second-lowest average in the league. They are also likely to pepper the Luton goal with shots, considering Luton face an average of over 16 shots per game, the third-highest record in the league.

Luton have also won a high number of corners in recent games, winning 32 of them in their last five outings in the league, so should win a few of their own on Saturday. The two sides shared 13 corners when they met before Christmas and it wouldn’t be surprising if they didn’t surpass 10 again on Saturday.
