St Mirren v Rangers
Premiership match at the The SMISA Stadium, Paisley

Rangers (-1)

Rangers will be aiming to claim three comfortable points on Saturday at the SMiSA Stadium when they travel to St Mirren. Philippe Clement’s side have won 13 of the 15 league matches that the Belgian has overseen since arriving during the October international break, with all but two of these victories coming by more than a single goal.

St Mirren, meanwhile, have lost three of their last four against Premiership opponents, including each of their last two at home. The hosts have gone down comfortably in both previous matches against Rangers this season, losing 3-0 at home, prior to Clement taking charge of the Gers, and slipping to a 2-0 loss when the sides met in Glasgow in October.

There is little pointing to a different outcome in this match, particularly with the Saints having failed to score in eight of their last 11 in the league.

James Tavernier to Score

Rangers captain James Tavernier is his side’s fifth-shortest-priced player to get on the scoresheet, this is a remarkable figure given that he is their top scorer with 17 goals this season. That represents a ratio of one in every two games.

Tavernier will take the majority of set pieces around the box, including free kicks and penalties, and is adept at taking advantage of these situations, while he is given free rein to charge forward down the right. Timing his run into the box is something he is a specialist at.

What’s more, barring injury or a red card, he’s the outfield player likeliest to get 90 minutes, with Cyriel Dessers and Fabio Silva set to split the striking duties. Tavernier scored twice in Paisley earlier this season and will be looking to repeat that feat.

Rangers to Win 7 or more Corners

Rangers are not typically a side that pick up a lot of corners, yet in this encounter they are likely to use two out-and-out wingers in the form of Rabbi Matondo and Ross McCausland, should the latter overcome a knock.

In a match they are likely to dominate, a high corner count could materialise. Certainly, that’s how things played out against Hibs midweek, when they found themselves earning 10 corner opportunities.

Look for them to at least achieve a figure higher than their season average of 6.09 corners away from home.

Elvis Bwomono to be Shown a Card

January signing Elvis Bwomono is set to be thrown into the fray from the beginning of a league match for the first time, with Saints manager Steven Robinson looking for energy down the right side of the field.

The Zambia international faces an intimidating full introduction to the Premiership as he will potentially face Matondo, a winger who will be intent on dribbling at every opportunity.

The 25-year-old could easily be drawn into a misjudgement as he tries to make an early impression, while he is no stranger to the referee’s notebook, having been cautioned six times and sent off once during his stint in Iceland in 2023.
