Liverpool to win

I’m very confident that we see Liverpool win this. Although they don’t need to win the game thanks to having a 2-1 lead heading into this match, they will end up winning. The pressure is on Fulham who need to go for broke and get themselves back into this tie.

If Fulham are piling on the pressure and throwing players forward then it’s only going to create holes and opportunity to counter when Liverpool reclaim possession. With the likes of Darwin Nunez, Luis Dias, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo they have real pace on the counter and should be able to hurt Fulham and take this game away from them.

Darwin Nunez to score or assist

Darwin Nunez has looked really good in the last few weeks scoring three and setting up three more in his past five games in all competitions. With no Mohamed Salah while the Egyptian is at AFCON it’s meant the team needed somebody to step up and Nunez has with his performance in their 4-0 win over Bournemouth being his best so far in a Liverpool shirt.

In 28 games across all competitions for Liverpool this season he’s scored 10 and assisted another 10, not bad considering 13 of those games came from the bench. He’s a talented player who is beginning to realise his potential and he should be very dangerous against a Fulham team who will at times be wide open at the back. I’m backing Nunez to Score Or Assist.

Both teams to score

I’ve explained above why I think Liverpool will score but I also see Fulham scoring. They managed to score in the first leg, taking a lead into halftime and in front of their home crowd on Wednesday I’d expect them to score again.

This isn’t a league game and there’s no damage to their goal difference if they take a battering and give up a lot of goals. While there’s a chance of getting back into this tie I expect that they’ll push their players forward and chase the goal that would put them level in the tie as Both Teams Score.

Diogo Jota to have 1 or more shots on target

He’s not played a huge amount this season, thanks to injury, but Diogo Jota is playing great right now. In 15 Premier League games, of which just nine were starts, he has seven goals and is averaging 1.7 shots per game. That rises to 2.7 shots per game in the Carabao Cup and I think we’ll see him getting at least one effort on target against Fulham.

Joao Palhinha to be shown a card

It’s going to be a really hard night for Joao Palhinha with the Portuguese midfielder having to not only go against one of the best midfields in England but also anchor the midfield when they’re throwing players forward and trying to score.

When Fulham push for a goal it’s going to mean more spaces opening for Liverpool to counter, something that increases the chances of their players having to give up free kicks and getting booked. Palhinha has eight yellows in just 18 Premier League games this season and there’s a very good chance he gets his first booking of the Carabao Cup campaign in this one as he tries to protect his team while they push on and search for goals.
