    Bournemouth v Liverpool

    Premier League, Sunday, 4:30pm
    TV: Sky Sports Main Event

I used to love going to play at Bournemouth. It’s a really good place to play football. I obviously started at QPR and the Vitality Stadium would remind me of Loftus Road, where all the fans are close to the pitch and you can hear what people are saying – or shouting – right behind you.

And Liverpool found out how tough it is to go there last year when they lost 1-0.

Other than their game against Spurs recently, Andoni Iraloa’s side have had a series of really good wins, with seven in nine games across all competitions. And the only other one they didn’t win was a 2-2 draw with Villa.

The manager has really turned it around. Sometimes it takes time to implement your ideas, and it was a difficult situation because, if I’m honest, Bournemouth getting rid of Gary O’Neil after the job he did last season felt like a bit of a mad decision.

It took them time to adapt, and lots of people wouldn’t have known much about him but they’ve turned it around and it looks like they are going to be comfortable this season.

That change has coincided with Dominic Solanke really starting to fire too.

He’s 26 now and I certainly know I wasn’t ready for the big time at 19 or 20.

He had his chance at Liverpool previously and it didn’t really work out but everyone I’ve spoken to around him really rates him as a player so this could be his time. There are even a few rumours swirling about him possibly getting looked at again given the way he’s been scoring this season – he’s third leading goalscorer in the league behind Salah and Haaland after all.

He might have been trying to do too much outside the box before. Now, the manager has minimised what he does there and wants him in the box and you’re seeing the benefits.

Everyone wants to do well against their old team as well, and I can see him having at least one shot on target, if not a goal.

      Match Odds: Liverpool to Win

Liverpool are missing their biggest goal threat in Mo Salah – I hope this injury at the African Cup of Nations is not a bad one because it could mean he’s out even longer. Maybe it could mean he gets a bit of rest if it’s not too severe though.

Wataru Endo is away with Japan as well and Trent Alexander-Arnold is out as well. Bournemouth would see that as an opportunity and it means other players have to step up when big names like that are out.

Liverpool are top of the table and looking to go five points ahead of City. It’s shaping up like it’s going to be the two of them going head-to-head for the title at the moment. City probably look like favourites now even though they’re two points behind just because they’ve been there before and we know they are capable of going on a big unbeaten run.

But I think Liverpool can push them and it’ll be tight. That means they have to win games like this. Diogo Jota being back is really big for Liverpool, they have Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz even with Salah unavailable, so there are still loads of goals in the team. Bournemouth might score, but Liverpool should make it five wins in a row on Sunday.

Darwin Nunez to Have 1+ Shots on Target

Darwin Nunez has a big part to play with Salah away. When he plays he causes carnage – sometimes you don’t mind that with a player because it just means things happen when he’s on the pitch.

He might miss chances, but he will make chances too, and he can score as well.

He’s really direct and he just keeps going. The fans love him for that and they’ll keep singing his name whatever’s happening.

No one’s going to say he’s the finished article yet but I do like him as a player and he’s always going to be involved in and around the goal, no matter what. He should have a shot on target as well in this.

Luis Diaz to be Fouled 2+ Times

Luis Diaz is always a threat with his pace and skill and Bournemouth’s defence will have a lot to deal with on Sunday.

I can see him causing a few rash challenges and Diaz to be fouled two or more times makes sense here.

Phillip Billing to be Shown a Card

Phillip Billing’s a big player for Bournemouth. He does a really good job for them and sometimes ends up getting the attention of the ref with his strong play. He has three cards already this season and I could see another one here if Bournemouth are chasing the game.
