Sheffield United vs West Ham
Premier League match at Bramall Lane, Sheffield
TV: TNT Sports, 2:00pm
On Sunday we see Sheffield United host West Ham at Bramall Lane as they desperately try and pick up points to mount an attempt at avoiding Premier League relegation. West Ham come into this after a 1-0 FA Cup replay defeat to Bristol City and have a number of star players out to either injured or international duty. Can David Moyes’ team do enough to win?
West Ham to Win
West Ham are without some big hitters with Lucas Paqueta, Michail Antonio, Mohammed Kudus and Nayef Aguerd all missing, some injured, and some at the African Cup of Nations. That leaves a shell of a team, perhaps one of the reasons why their second string failed to beat Bristol City in the FA Cup replay.
I don’t see that being an issue here and I think that defeat has potentially helped us get bigger odds on the West Ham win. Even with some key players absent this is still the core of a team who entered the weekend sixth in the Premier League table, while this Sheffield United team have picked up just nine points all campaign.
With the greatest of respect to a magnificent fanbase, this Blades team are truly tragic and will be beaten here.
Both teams to Score, No
I can’t see Sheffield United scoring here. They’re the only team in the Premier League who are averaging less than one goal scored per game and have found the back of the net just 15 times in 20 games.
More worrying is West Ham’s defensive forms with the club keeping a clean sheet in each of their previous four games in the Premier League, with David Moyes relying on his team’s defensive strengths while they are missing top attacking players. Not only that but the last three meetings between the clubs in all competitions have seen West Ham keep a clean sheet.

Jarrod Bowen to Score
Fortunately, it looks like Jarrod Bowen will be available to David Moyes on Sunday and he really needs the England man. Bowen has had the best half-season of his career so far, bagging 11 goals in 19 Premier League games and becoming a real danger to the opposition.
The 27-year old is the key man in the West Ham attack and will have extra responsibility with some of his other illustrious teammates out of the lineup. He leads the team in shots per game with 2.5 and I expect he’ll score against the worst defence in the Premier League who have given up 49 goals so far this season.
George Baldock to Commit 1 or more Fouls
We’re expecting to see George Baldock in the right wingback position for the Blades which means we have to back the 30-year old to give up a foul. He’s averaged 1.5 fouls per game so far this season and with his lack of pace, he can get found out.
It’s not a big price but it’s one that adds a little something to this Bet Builder and should keep us ticking along.
Edson Alvarez to Commit 1 or more Fouls
We’re backing another player to commit 1 or more fouls in this game and that’s West Ham midfielder Edson Alvarez. Only Lucas Paqueta gives up more fouls per game and the Brazilian is injured. At 1.2 fouls per game, we can rely on the Mexican to give up at least one against a battling Sheffield United team.
Alvarez sits in the middle of the park and will be up against a physically determined team in Sheffield United, who can only win via outworking and outfighting West Ham, not by quality. That should mean a physical battle in midfield, which will see the 26-year old commit at least one foul.
