Morocco v Tanzania
Group F match at the Stade Laurent Pokou, San-Pedro, 5pm
TV: Sky Sports Football, Main Event
Best Bet: Morocco to Win to Nil
AFCON favourites Morocco, ranked 13th in the world, kick off their campaign against 121st-tanked Tanzania. Morocco’s preparations plans didn’t, well, go to plan with two of their games leading up to the tournament being canceled, however, they’ve won four of their last five fixtures and only conceded two goals while scoring 10.
Tanzania have won just one of their last five games, drawing two, and losing two, scoring just two goals while conceding five. Morocco also beat them 0-2 in a World Cup qualification game in November last and with the superior talent in their squad should be winning here without conceding.
Long Shot: Hakim Ziyech First Goalscorer
Former Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech has an impressive goal-scoring record for his national team, scoring 21 goals over 42 appearances. Sevilla striker Youssef En-Nesyri is favourite in the odds here but his record isn’t nearly as impressive and has stuttered in a Sevilla side struggling for form this season.
Ziyech looks like he’s actually enjoying his football again since his move in the summer to Galatasaray. We reckon he’ll be eager to get on the scoresheet here and worth taking a punt on to open the scoring.
Congo v Zambia
Group F match at the Stade Laurent Pokou, San-Pedro, 8pm
TV: Sky Sports Football, Main Event
Best Bet: Zambia to Win
It’s 112th in the world taking on 84th here and while Congo will do their best to give Zambia a tough evening, it’s hard to argue with Zambia’s stats. The Copper Bullets have won four, drawn two and lost two of their last eight, scoring 13 and conceding eight.
Congo have won just one of their last seven fixtures, drawing three, and losing three, scoring just four goals while conceding five. Congo just don’t have the goal-scoring players needed for a victory and Zambia should be outsourcing them here.
Long Shot: Zambia to Win 2-1
Congo’s chance really comes from the fact that Zambia don’t seem to care all that much about keeping clean sheets. Indeed, they’ve kept their opponents scoreless in just two of their last 11 fixtures. As above really, we can only see Zambia winning here, so the 1-2 scoreline looks to have some decent odds.
