2pm: Senegal v Gambia

Best bet: Senegal -1

We’re onto the third day of the Africa Cup of Nations, with Senegal v Gambia kicking off proceedings on Monday afternoon.

Senegal are the reigning champions and they are nailed on to secure a win in their AFCON opener against a Gambia side who haven’t played since the end of November after their friendly against Morocco earlier this month was cancelled.

Gambia, who also had a flight scare on their way to AFCON as the plane was forced to turn back due to a lack of oxygen on board, have hardly had any preparation for the tournament.

Senegal’s front three of Sadio Mane, Nicolas Jackson and Ismaila Sarr will cause Gambia far too many problems. Instead of backing Senegal to win at the odds, we like the look of Senegal -1 on the Handicap market.

Long shot: Senegal To Win 2-0

Senegal -1 on the Handicap market means we need Mane and Co. to win by two or more goals, so it makes sense that our long shot is Senegal To Win 2-0.

Aliou Cisse’s side haven’t conceded in their last four games in all competitions and that will likely be five by the end of Tuesday, with Gambia set to offer little threat going forward.

Senegal have the luxury of having ex-Chelsea stopper Edouard Mendy in goal, while his former Stamford Bridge team-mate Kalidou Koulibaly will start at centre-back. Everton’s Idrissa Gueye will be protecting the back four too.

It seems a case of how many will Senegal score and considering they’ve only netted six times in their last four games, we like the look of a 2-0 Correct Scoreline bet.

    5pm: Cameroon v Guinea

    Best bet: Under 2.5 Goals

Next up is Cameroon v Guinea, with both sides set to be battling to finish behind Senegal in Group C.

Cameroon have been hit with the major blow of captain Vincent Aboubakar likely being ruled out of the whole tournament after suffering an injury this week.

That leaves them without their major attacking threat, while Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo didn’t travel to AFCON after undergoing ankle surgery.

Guinea will be hoping that Serhou Guirassy and Naby Keita will be fit to start, however, it’s worth waiting until line ups to see who makes the starting XI’s.

With both teams likely to be missing key players, we’re on Under 2.5 Goals. The selection has landed in eight of Cameroon and Guinea’s last 10 games combined.

Long shot: Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Draw

Sticking with the theme of star players missing, there could be a chance we see a snoozefest on Tuesday as both teams struggle to create chances.

We’re taking a chance on Half Time/Full Time: Draw/Draw as this could easily finish 0-0 (or 1-1 if we’re lucky enough to get a couple of goals).

It could be a cagey first half without any clear-cut chances and goals and then it could open up in the second half with both teams potentially netting.

    8pm: Algeria v Angola

Best bet: Algeria To Win And Under 3.5 Goals

Finally, we’ve got Algeria v Angola to cap off Tuesday’s action.

Algeria, who won the competition back in 2019, will fancy their chances of topping Group D with former Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez leading their AFCON charge.

Angola haven’t won a game since last July so all signs point to Algeria kicking off the group stages with a win. To boost the odds, we’re going to chuck in Under 3.5 Goals.

Angola’s last four games have finished 0-0 and opening group games are usually cagey so we’ll stuck with the Unders.

Long shot: Riyad Mahrez To Score First

If anyone’s going to score for Algeria, it’s Mahrez.

The winger, who quit City last summer in favour of a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli, has scored 31 times for his country in 90 appearances.

Mahrez has netted eight times for Al-Ahli this season and he’s the main man for his country. He’ll be on free-kicks as well as penalties.

We could easily see Algeria win 1-0 with Mahrez netting the only goal. That’s the plan anyway!
