15:00: Derby County v Peterborough United

12:30: Sunderland v Preston North End

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Football

Best Bet: Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals

While plenty of eyes will be on the Premier League action over the New Year period, we’ve got Championship and League One action to get stuck into, with Sky Sports showing three televised games.

First up is Sunderland v Preston North End, which sees seventh host 11th. Ex-Rangers boss Michael Beale is now in charge of the Black Cats and they’re enjoying plenty of possession, it’s just whether they can turn that into clear chances and goals.

Sunderland come into Monday’s clash on the back of their 1-0 win at Hull followed by a 1-1 draw at Rotherham – and they’ll expect to take all three points against a Preston side who have lost three of their last four.

Instead of picking a winner for our best bet, we’re on Both Teams To Score & Over 2.5 Goals. Sunderland’s home games are averaging three goals and 75 per cent of their Stadium Of Light clashes have seen Over 2.5 Goals land.

Four of Preston’s last five Championship games have seen the BTTS and Over 2.5 Goals come in. It’s a smart pick.

Long Shot: Jack Clarke to Score First and Sunderland to Win

We’re pretty confident of Sunderland having enough to beat Preston, especially considering the away side’s downfall following their brilliant start to the campaign.

That leaves us with Jack Clarke to Score First. The winger has netted in his last two games and he’ll fancy his chances of making it three in a row.

Clarke has already scored 12 times this season and he’s had at least three shots in his last four outings.

15:00: Derby County v Peterborough United

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Football

Best Bet: The Draw

We’ve also got League One action as Peterborough United in third travel to fourth-placed Derby County.

Both sides are in fine form, with Derby and Peterborough unbeaten in their last 10 games combined.

If either side manages to secure the victory, they can move into the top two ahead of Bolton. We’re marking this game under ‘do not lose’ for Derby and Peterborough. That means it has to end in a draw, right?

Long Shot: Correct Score: 1-1

We’re already on the draw, so backing Correct Score: 1-1 seems the obvious step up.

Both Derby and Peterborough have been free-flowing and banging in the goals this season, with the home side netting 42 times in their 23 outings, while the Posh’s tally is 47 goals in 24 games.

It’s hard to see either team being shut out so we’re behind an entertaining 1-1 at Pride Park.

17:15: Sheffield Wednesday v Hull City

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Football

    Best Bet: Over 2.5 Goals

Our final EFL game on the tellybox is Sheffield Wednesday v Hull City in the Championship.

The away side are in the playoffs and they’ve been brilliant this season. The same can’t be said for Sheffield Wednesday, who are second bottom having won just five games all season (and two have come in their last four outings!)

Hull should have more than enough quality to dispatch Sheffield Wednesday but our smart bet is Over 2.5 Goals.

The selection has landed in four of Hull’s last five outings and they’ve had two 3-2 scorelines in that period too.

As for Sheffield Wednesday, three of their last five matches have seen the selection land. The stats are in our favour.

Long Shot: Hull to Win & Both Teams To Score

We’re expecting goals on Monday evening but if either side is going to win, it’s Hull.

They’ve won three of their last five and a win would distance the gap on the playoff-chasing pack.

Although Sheffield Wednesday have improved recently, the in-form Hull might just be a step too far.

Both Teams To Score looks on as well, with the selection landing in Sheffield Wednesday’s last four home games. Let’s hope it becomes five!
