Man United v Aston Villa Betting Tips

Aston Villa Win or Draw (Double Chance)
Ollie Watkins to Score or Assist
Luke Shaw to be Shown a Card
Bruno Fernandes to Have 2 or More Shots
Douglas Luiz to Commit 1 or More Fouls

Tuesday, December 26 – 8pm: Manchester United v Aston Villa
Premier League match at Old Trafford
    TV: Amazon Prime

Boxing Day is wrapped up by Aston Villa’s trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United. An equaliser in the seventh minute of injury time grabbed a point for Villa against Sheffield United on Friday, while The Red Devils got humbled by West Ham the following day.

Both teams will be desperate to get back to winning ways on Boxing Day, but who will come out on top? Sorry United fans but I really fancy the high-flying Villa to get something out of this. Let’s get into my Bet Builder.

Aston Villa or Draw (Double Chance)

Aston Villa would have expected to beat Sheffield United at Villa Park on Friday but given that they managed to steal a draw in the 97th minute you’d hope most supporters wouldn’t be too disappointed. That extended their unbeaten run to seven games in the Premier League and the reality is that they’re a far better team than their opponents right now.

Erik ten Hag’s team have won just half of their 18 games, a poor return on what was expected this season. They’re also in a major rut right now, winning just once in their last five games. Aston Villa have either won or drawn 15 of their 18 games and I think they’re likely to leave Old Trafford with a point or more, so back Villa or the Draw on the Double Chance market.

Ollie Watkins to score or assist

If there’s anyone who is likely to contribute towards an Aston Villa goal then it’s surely Ollie Watkins who has been great again this season. In 18 games he’s scored nine times and assisted another six. To have a hand in 15 goals is exceptional and I think he’ll fancy himself against this United backline.

It’s hard to predict exactly who will be starting for United given their injury crisis but when they fielded Jonny Evans and Willy Kambwala as centre-backs in their last game against West Ham it was the 10th different central defensive partnership of the season. That’s no way to build a solid defence and it’s hurt Man Utd and I’ll expect that lack of understanding to help Watkins create or bag a goal here.

Luke Shaw to be shown a card

Luke Shaw missed a number of games earlier in the season down to injury but despite playing just eight times in the Premier League, the defender now has four yellow cards. That’s the second highest number on the team despite playing just eight matches.

Villa are a very good attacking team with a number of dangerous attackers who can draw fouls. With Shaw getting booked in 50% of Premier League games so far I think we’re getting good value by including a Shaw booking in this Bet Builder.

Bruno Fernandes to have 2 or more shots

He’s only scored three times in 17 Premier League games but Bruno Fernandes leads Man Utd players in shots per game, with 2.6. That’s double the 1.3 of Rasmus Hojlund. That might tell us something about Hojlund’s performances but it also tells us that Fernandes loves to shoot.

When they’re struggling he often tries to take the team on his back and force them back into contention by trying to score. With this being a tough game I’m expecting him to take a number of shots and given that two shots is below his season average I feel confident in it landing here.

Douglas Luiz to commit 1 or more fouls

The Brazilian has quietly become on the best midfielders in the Premier League and Douglas Luiz should be able to have another good game here against a Man Utd midfield who can’t seem to dictate matches.

We’re going to back the 25-year old to commit one or more fouls. He’s averaged 1.4 per game so far this season in the Premier League and with this game taking place late on Boxing Day, under the floodlights, I’m expecting a passionate game with plenty of fouls, of which Luiz will surely be one.
