Newcastle v Nottingham Forest
Premier League match at St James’ Park
Tuesday, December 26: 12:30pm
TV: Amazon Prime
Over 2.5 Goals
Newcastle suffered a damaging defeat at Luton on Saturday, but the difference between their home and away form has been night and day in recent weeks.
Eddie Howe’s side have now lost each of their last four away league outings, failing to win any of their last six games on the road in a run stretching back to September.
However, they have won each of their last seven home league games, scoring 16 goals in the process.
They average over two goals per game at home this season and have not failed to score in any league game at St. James’ Park since the start of the campaign. That is unlikely to change against a badly out-of-form Nottingham Forest outfit.
Forest were beaten 3-2 against Bournemouth at the weekend after a scandalous decision to send Willy Boly off midway through the first half and are now winless in seven league games, conceding 18 goals in that timeframe.
There is a good chance that Newcastle breach the Forest defence on multiple occasions and there will almost certainly be goals.
Over 4.5 Cards
Forest may have been incredibly unfortunate to be reduced to 10 men in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game in charge, but that does not change the fact that their discipline leaves a lot to be desired.
They have received 39 bookings and three red cards in 18 league games this season, leaving them 12th in the league’s disciplinary table. Newcastle, meanwhile, have received 42 bookings and no red cards as the season approached its midway point.
Both sides can be physically abrasive and there is a good chance that several cards will be issued when they go head-to-head.

Newcastle To Have 7+ Shots on Target
It is not a mystery why Forest have conceded so many goals in their last seven games. Thave faced 36 shots on target in that seven-game spell at a rate of over five per game and there is a good chance that they will face considerably more shots than that average in this early kick-off.
Newcastle have registered 39 shots on target in their last six home league games at St. James’ Park and are likely to at least match that six-game average of 6.5 shots on target per game.
Forest will almost certainly sit deep and attempt to absorb the pressure and it wouldn’t be surprising if the hosts landed a number of shots on target.
Bruno Guimaraes to Attempt 70+ Passes
One thing is certain about this Boxing Day clash – Forest will have less possession than Newcastle.
It may be Santo’s team now, but the tactics are likely to resemble those of Steve Cooper, with Forest conceding possession and territory in difficult away games.
At 39%, Forest have the fourth-lowest possession average in the league and Newcastle will almost certainly enjoy more than 60% possession.
Bruno Guimaraes, who completes an average of 65.5 passes per game with a completion rate of only 87%, is excellent value to attempt at least 70 passes.
Over 6.5 Newcastle Corners
Working off the assumption that Newcastle will dominate possession and pepper the Forest goal with shots, it is not a stretch to assume that the hosts will also win a number of corners.
In their last seven games, The Toon have won a total of 36 corners at a rate of over five per game. They will need to better that average here but have every chance of doing so against a side that will sit deep.
Forest have conceded 54 corners in their last ten games at a rate of well over five per game and could easily give that average a boost.
