Roma vs Napoli
Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico, Rome, 7:45pm
TV: TNT Sports 1
Saturday night has a Christmas treat for football fans with Roma and Napoli meeting in the Serie A. Napoli have struggled after last season’s title triumph and Jose Mourinho’s Roma have also failed to meet expectations and come into the weekend three spots and two points behind fifth-placed Napoli. This is going to be a fascinating game and a great way to finish off the evening after watching Liverpool take on Arsenal.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Score or Assist
Victor Osimhen was Napoli’s big star as they won the Scudetto last season but while he scored 26 league goals it was always Kvaratskhelia who stood out when you watched them play. Osimhen hasn’t reached last season’s levels yet but Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has continued his development into one of Europe’s best players.
In 15 games, 13 of which were starts, Kvaratskhelia has scored five times and assisted another three more. The man they call ‘Kvaradona’ also comes into this on the back of an excellent performance in his last league game which saw him score and be named MOTM in the win over Cagliari.
I expect him to contribute towards a goal again here, with Roma, as well as Napoli, allowing more goals than anybody else in the top half of Serie A.
Romelu Lukaku to Score
With neither Roma nor Napoli having great defensive records this season, I’m expecting goals from both teams and for Roma there’s one man who is likely to score, Romelu Lukaku. The big Belgian has become an enigma, even a meme to some extent, but he’s still a very capable goalscorer, already having scored seven goals this season.
It’s worth noting that he’s scored in his last two starts for Roma and also comes into this well-rested following a one-game ban for a red card against Fiorentina. If he’s fresh and hungry then the Napoli defence needs to be very careful.

Bryan Cristante to Commit 2 or more Fouls
One thing Jose Mourinho loves in all of his teams is a combative midfielder. Somebody who is hard-working and who does the dirty work and hard yards for the more skillful players. Bryan Cristante is that man for Roma, an ever-present, starting all 16 Serie A games.
Despite picking up just three yellow cards all season he leads his team in fouls per game with a huge 2.1 He’s a master of the dark arts and I’m expecting him to continue his average here by committing at least two fouls against Napoli.
Gianluca Mancini to Commit 1 or more Fouls
Next up behind Cristante in terms of fouls committed per game is Gianluca Mancini, with 1.4 fouls per game in the league. The defender lines up on the right side of Roma’s back three. That’s bad news for Mancini but good news for us foul bettors because he’ll have to deal with Kvaratskhelia in the channels between him and the right-wing back.
Kvaratskhelia gets fouled 2.7 times per game on average, a huge number, and with Mancini having to deal with him on multiple occasions, we’re likely to see him give up a foul.
Victor Osimhen to have 3 or more Shots
We might not be seeing vintage Victor Osimhen this season but he’s still been a menace to opponents and we’re backing him to take three or more shots. So far this season he’s been averaging 3.5 shots per game in Serie A.
With two goals in his past two starts, we should see his confidence high and with that in mind, we’re highly likely to see at least three shots at goal from the 24-year-old.
