Arsenal v Brighton

Brighton to have 5 or more Shots On Target

Brentford v Aston Villa
Over 2.5 Goals
Both Teams to Score

West Ham United v Wolves

Both Teams to Score

Let’s be honest, the game we’re all looking forward to on Sunday is the clash between Liverpool and Manchester United. The Reds will likely win by a country mile and we’ll be treated to post-match analysis which will consist of rage from Roy Keane and Glazer chat from Gary Neville.

But before that game gets underway at 4:30pm, we have a trio of matches kicking off at 2pm. Two of them feature title challengers so Sky Sports have naturally opted to screen the mid-table clash between West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Whether a game is on the box or not doesn’t matter when there’s money to be made. Here’s a Bet Builder covering the 2pm games, with Brentford hosting Aston Villa and Brighton travelling to Arsenal to make up our three matches. It’s a cockney threesome, baby.

    Arsenal v Brighton

    Emirates Stadium, London

Brighton to have 5 or more Shots On Target

We’ll begin at the Emirates, where Arsenal are expected to beat Brighton. Yet each of the last four meetings of the teams has ended in an away win, with three of them occurring in north London.

Under normal circumstances, the Seagulls might be able to secure another three points at Arsenal, though as they are winless in their last four league matches directly following Europa League games, possibly not.

They should create a few chances though. Brighton have had at least six shots on target in 10 matches, more than any other team in the 2023/24 Premier League. While it will be hard to match that against the Gunners, both Tottenham and Burley had five at the Emirates so Roberto De Zerbi’s side can too.

      Gabriel Jesus to Score

At the other end, Gabriel Jesus should start and is in good form when he does. He came off the bench in the 89th minute in Eindhoven in midweek so was largely saved for this and he has scored in four of his last six appearances lasting at least 70 minutes. In the weekend before Christmas, Jesus can deliver.

          Brentford v Aston Villa

          Gtech Community Stadium, Brentford

          Both Teams to Score

Across London, Arsenal’s title rivals Aston Villa will be taking on Brentford, and like Brighton the visitors were in Europa League action on Thursday.

Flawless at Villa Park they may be but Villa are difficult to read on the road. Wins at Chelsea and Tottenham have accompanied a loss at Nottingham Forest and a fortunate draw at Bournemouth. Brentford may have too many players unavailable – nine at the time of writing – to take advantage of Villa’s inconsistency though.

With the outcome difficult to call, we should be safer looking at goals. Both teams have scored in three of the four Premier League meetings (including both in London) and the exception featured four goals.

            Over 2.5 Goals

Only two sides in the top flight have fewer clean sheets than the Bees but only two have had more home games with at least three goals. The expected goal data for the season is suggesting this should be the most entertaining game of the weekend.

            West Ham United vs. Wolvers

            London Stadium, London
TV: SKy Sports Premier League/Main Event

            Wolves and Draw

The nerdy numbers also suggest that an away win could be on the cards on the east side of the capital, with xG giving Wolverhampton Wanderers a far greater chance of three points than Paddy Power does.

It’s far from guaranteed though, not least as Wolves have lost their last three visits to the London Stadium without scoring. The 2023/24 iteration of the ‘Old Gold’ has a bit more about it than many of its predecessors though.

Wolves have scored in all-but-one of their away games this season, for one thing. Even in the match in which they drew a blank, at Old Trafford, everyone in the world apart from the referee and the VAR agreed they should have had a late penalty.

And though they’ve only avoided defeat three times on the road in 2023/24, two of their last three defeats saw them lose to goals in the 94th minute or later. A Europa-weary West Ham is unlikely to push quite as hard late on.

              Both Teams to Score

But the Hammers should score, as they’ve only failed to once on home soil this season. It barely counts as it was against Everton, and who can hope to compete against Sean Dyche’s mighty warriors?
