Celtic +1

Celtic’s final home Champions League group stage game against Feyenoord is little more than a friendly with a healthy prize bonus as the pool has already been decided as far as these clubs are concerned. This will be the home side’s last European match of the season, while the Dutch outfit will go into the Europa League in the spring.

Celtic have point to prove and a reputation for being a fierce home side to uphold. They will wish to do that in front of a home crowd that has been left disappointed by this Champions League campaign and also by some recent performances. Sunday’s 2-1 defeat to Kilmarnock should spur the Hoops towards a positive result.

It would be surprising if Feyenoord were to risk key winger Calvin Stengs or highly rated defender Quilindschy Hartman, who are both carrying injuries, and rotation is likely to take place. If Santiago Gimenez is one of those left out, they will be particularly vulnerable, with the Mexico international in rampant form this season. It would be a logical step to rest him here.

Look for a wounded Celtic team to take advantage. The Hoops have already drawn with Atletico Madrid at home in the competition and were unfortunate to lose 2-1 to Lazio, and taking something from a potentially weakened Feyenoord team should be well within their ballpark.

Over 2.5 Goals

Both these teams have a habit of being involved in high-scoring matches. Of Celtic’s last 18 games, 14 have produced more than 2.5 goals, while 15 of Feyenoord’s last 19 have been similarly entertaining.

With little but pride on the line in this game, it is unlikely to be a fixture in which either team is particularly conservative. Both clubs have an attacking philosophy to their play.

When the teams met earlier this season in Rotterdam, it was the opening night of the competition and was a naturally more conservative environment, which led to Feyenoord winning 2-0. The complexion of the game was also transformed by Celtic having two players dismissed in the middle of the second half, so this match is liable to be rather different.

Kyogo Furuhashi to Have 2 or More Shots on Target

Kyogo is going through arguably his most difficult period as a Celtic player, having been left out of the starting XI in each of the last two matches. The Japanese forward, though, will be brought back into the team for this encounter and will be eager to prove his worth after getting just 31 minutes in the last couple of games.

Rodgers will look to use this as a chance to play the 28-year-old back into some form. Parkhead on a Champions League night has been to his liking this season, with goals scored against Lazio and Atletico Madrid, and he should expect to be active in this game, too.

With a point to prove, look for Kyogo to seek to make an impact at every possible opportunity, with odds of 2.88 of him having 2 or more shots on target looking very appetising indeed.

Anthony Ralston to Commit 1 or More Fouls

Rotation is going to be the name of the game for Celtic ahead of this encounter, and one of the more logical players to start is right-back Anthony Ralston, who is yet to play a minute of Champions League football this season.

The Scotland international has stood in for Alistair Johnston regularly this season, starting three of the last eight in the league, and this could well be his opportunity in Europe.

It will be a big test for the defender in what promises to be an open game, and with that in mind, it would be surprising if he did not commit to at least one overzealous challenge in this clash.

    Over 9.5 Corners

Although there were only four corners in total when these sides met in Rotterdam, this is very much out of keeping with the form of both. Feyenoord twice hit double figures in corners against Atletico Madrid, for instance.

Celtic, meanwhile, have won at least 3 corners in every other game they have played – including the match in Madrid when they were down to 10 men for so long. Meanwhile, they also average more than 10 corners per match domestically at home this season, and though the Champions League is a very different level, this encounter is likely to be more what they are used to with the visitors probably shuffling their squad around.

An open match should be conducive to a significant corner count.
