Newcastle v AC Milan
Champions League match at St James’ Park, Newcastle
Wednesday, 8pm
TV: TNT Sports
Both Teams to Score
Newcastle and AC Milan played out a 0-0 draw in the opening fixture of the Champions League this season, but there is little chance of that happening again.
Both teams need to win to have any chance of progressing to the knockout stages of the Champions League and will have to take risks on Wednesday night.
The two sides played out an incredibly entertaining draw at the San Siro earlier in the season and both have the capacity to hurt each other.
Neither team has been particularly good at the back recently, with Newcastle conceding seven in their last two Premier League games and AC Milan conceding seven in their last three games in all competitions, including three against Borussia Dortmund in their most recent Champions League game.
Newcastle have conceded in both home Champions League games so far and may well do so again on Wednesday, but they should score at the other end.
Over 6.5 Newcastle Corners
Newcastle tend to win a considerable number of corners at home, regardless of the competition.
Eddie Howe’s side have won 28 corners in their last five home games in all competitions at a rate of almost six per game.
Considering they have to go for it against AC Milan, there is a good chance that they will better that five-game average on Wednesday night.
AC Milan have also faced 25 corners in their last four games and are likely to come under significant pressure at times.

AC Milan to Have Four or More Shots on Target
AC Milan absolutely battered Newcastle for large parts of their goalless draw earlier in the campaign, attempting 25 shots and hitting the target on nine occasions.
They are unlikely to enjoy such dominance in the partisan atmosphere of St. James’ Park, but they will cause problems for Newcastle.
Howe’s side have faced 31 shots on target in their five Champions League games to date at a rate of over six per game.
They also face a combined total of 18 shots on target in their recent games against Everton and Tottenham.
Milan have recorded 25 shots on target in five Champions League games this season and are likely to hit the target at least four times as they go in search of a win that could potentially see them qualify for the knockout stages.
Miguel Almiron to Have Three or More Shots
No Newcastle player has attempted more shots in the Champions League this season than Miguel Almiron.
The Paraguayan forward averages 1.8 shots per game in Europe this season despite starting two games from the bench and is likely to try his luck on a number of occasions on Wednesday.
Newcastle have attempted 12 shots in each of their home Champions League games so far but are almost certainly going to attempt more when Milan come to town.
Almiron is good value to be responsible for at least three of those shots.
Over 5.5 Cards
Milan boast one of the worst disciplinary records in Europe this season, picking up 12 yellow cards in their five group games to date. Only six clubs have picked up more cards in Europe this season.
Newcastle, on the other hand, boast a better disciplinary record than their opponents, picking up nine bookings to date at a rate of just under two per game.
However, Wednesday’s game is so important that both teams are likely to pick up more bookings than usual.
It will be a tense affair at St. James’ Park and there will probably be a lot of yellow cards for time-wasting and professional fouls if one team is on the cusp of qualifying for the next round.
