Liverpool to Win
Both Teams to Score
Over 2.5 Goals
Jordan Ayew to Win 3+ Fouls
Dominik Szoboszlai to Attempt 90+ Passes

Is Roy Hodgson about to put a dampener on proceedings on Merseyside? Does he give Liverpool a nice friendly welcome to South London by scalping them like his club did twice last term?

Are Manchester City about to simply get away with a slip-up? This feels a bit like a WWF hype package from the ‘90s.

Liverpool to Win

Palace have taken points off Liverpool the last two times they’ve met so I’m not suggesting this is clear-cut and ready to go.

But I would say this Palace team are markedly worse than last year’s. That was very much exposed, not even just in the midweek defeat at home to Bournemouth, but in their losses to Luton and Everton – two teams who are going through severe crises, and they hadn’t the ability to take the front foot and beat them into submission.

Now it really feels like a 90s wrestling pitch, doesn’t it?

Both Teams to Score

Palace always score goals when they’re not having much of the ball. That’s in their nature. They kept 60% possession against Bournemouth on Wednesday and looked toothless. They scored in their five games prior to that.

They’re well able to do so when they’re not being asked to set the median tempo of a game, and they certainly won’t be asked to do so here.

Over 2.5 Goals

I think we’ll see Liverpool’s key players come to the fore here, as Palace know how to slow teams down in the middle third, but are generally susceptible to players who can score in a variety of ways.

Given Erling Haaland’s limitations, it’s clear to me that Liverpool possess a bigger threat than any other team in the league to score from anywhere – whether it be through Trent Alexander-Arnold’s set pieces or long-range efforts from any one of their talented squad.

Jordan Ayew to Be Fouled Three or More Times

Not only is Jordan Ayew the most fouled player in the Premier League, he’s won 21 more fouls than anyone else in the competition. It’s staggering.

He’s played fifteen games this season. He’s been fouled twice or fewer in just three of them.

Dominik Szoboszlai to Attempt 90+ Passes

While it’s generally a case of Virgil van Dijk and co getting a freebie in the deep third to pass amongst themselves, teams play Palace slightly differently because of the sheer pace they possess.

They’ll look to start moves higher up the pitch, which should see Big Dom – as I’ve christened him – getting the lion’s share. He had 99 passes against Wolves in September, which is the most attempts of any non-defender at the club this year.

A repeat performance is likely here.
