Rangers to win

Rangers’ midweek trip to Tynecastle to face Hearts promises to be a fascinating affair between two in-form teams. The Gers, though, have a substantial upper hand in this rivalry and are yet to taste defeat under new manager Philippe Clement.

Rangers picked up a very creditable 2-0 win over St Mirren at the weekend in a match in which Todd Cantwell reasserted himself by supplying two assists for Abdallah Sima to score from.

Although the schedule for the visitors has been packed, they boast the type of squad depth that is the envy of their hosts, so coping with another midweek game should not be too much of a problem.

Hearts, meanwhile, might have won their last four in the league, but they have been picking off weak opponents in a laboured manner. Saturday’s 1-0 win over Kilmarnock away from home was a more impressive scalp but they scored with their only shot on target.

Rangers have won nine of the last 10 between these clubs, including a comprehensive 3-1 success in the League Cup semi-final a month ago, when Hearts looked scared to attack them.

Over 2.5 goals

Historically, matches between Rangers and Hearts are exciting affairs that produce goals, and a midweek clash under the lights at Tynecastle should provide the type of atmosphere that is ideal for replicating such exciting games.

The last four between these clubs – as well as six of the last seven in the league – have all produced at least three goals.

When the sides met last on November 5, Hearts tried a pragmatic defensive approach to thwart their opponents, yet the Ibrox club had too much class for them and found a route to goal on three occasions. Steven Naismith may feel, then, that he has to adopt a different attitude for this game, which could lead to a more open affair.

Over 9.5 corners

No Premiership club’s matches produce as many corners as those of Hearts. In total, the Jamos’ fixtures are averaging 12.29 corner kicks per game, with the Edinburgh side typically winning around 7.5 of their own per game.

An astonishing 93% of Hearts’ games this season have produced over 9.5 corners, and though Rangers are typically stingy in this regard, the volume of flag kicks that the Ibrox team win on average (6.21), suggests that this should be another game-high in corner action.

Hearts to receive the most cards

Hearts have picked up nearly twice as many cards as Rangers this season, with the Edinburgh side having seen 31 yellows and no reds. By contrast, Rangers are sitting on only 16 bookings with a single red card against their name.

The Gers have not received more than a single yellow card in any league match since Philippe Clement took charge of the club, showing they are a clean side.

By contrast, Hearts snapped a seven-game league run in which they had seen at least two yellow cards against Kilmarnock on Saturday. Included in this sequence was a five-booking haul when they last met Rangers. They also saw four yellows to one in the recent League Cup semi.

The hosts are a logical choice to find their way more regularly into Willie Collum’s book in this game.

Abdallah Sima To Score Anytime

Given that no Rangers player has a better scoring ratio than Abdallah Sima, the on-loan Brighton winger looks an excellent price at 3.0 to find the target at Tynecastle.

Fresh from two goals at the weekend against St Mirren, Sima is looking dangerous on an increasingly regular basis for the Ibrox club, with his 11 goals coming on average once every 155 minutes he is on the field. Even top scorer James Tavernier, who has one more goal in all competitions, cannot top this statistic.

While Clement is likely to rotate, it would be surprising if the in-form Sima came into these thoughts given his recent level. In Rangers’ last eight league games, he has featured in all but 50 minutes, so the winger should be prominent here.
