Rangers -1 (Handicap Betting)

Aris may have shocked Rangers 2-1 in early October, but they will face a very different side on Thursday at Ibrox when the teams meet again in Europa League action. The Gers have been galvanised by the arrival of Philippe Clement and should have the capacity to win this match with some to spare.

Rangers, after all, have an excellent home record in Europe. In Glasgow, they have won three of their four previous outings this season, albeit only be a single goal each. By contrast, the Cypriots have lost all three Europa League away matches they have played this season and each of the four they have participated in since beating BATE 5-3 on the road in Champions League qualifying in August.

Under Clement, though, they are a much-improved outfit, even if they were reliant on a generous late penalty to secure a point against Aberdeen in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership match. Prior to that, they hade won five of their seven previous games by at least two goals. Look for the Gers to run out similarly comfortable winners here.

Over 2.5 Goals

History suggests this is a game that will have goals in it. Certainly, previous Aris matches in Europe this season have seen plenty of action, with their five away matches in their continental campaign totalling 24 goals. Incidentally, they have scored at least one in each of these, so backing both teams to score may also have value.

Rangers are slightly more pragmatic, but have become more dynamic offensively under Clement, which they will hope to make tell in this encounter as they seek a statement victory.

Five of the hosts’ eight European matches have seen more than two goals scored, and that ratio should jump after this game, especially with Aris having a tendency to concede.

James Tavernier to Score

James Tavernier is often Rangers’ man for the big occasion and the scene for this encounter is one that the right-back typically thrives off.

Already this season, the 32-year-old is up to 12 goals, although curiously he has yet to strike in the Europa League. Famous for the volume of penalties he nets, the Englishman’s capabilities from finding the net from open play should not be underestimated. He has five goals away from spot kicks this season, which ranks fourth amongst Rangers’ squad.

Add in his threat from penalties and free kicks, and the veteran looks good value for getting on the scoresheet against an opponent that has conceded seven goals in their two away matches.

Abdallah Sima to Commit Two or More Fouls

The exact composition of the Rangers attack is unpredictable thanks to the return of Rabbi Matondo, but with the Wales international typically used off the right, Sima should be backed to start this game. He has, after all, played all but six minutes in the competition so far.

Look for the on-loan Brighton player to chalk up a high foul count. No Rangers player has committed more than his six fouls across the four group stage encounters to date, with the winger twice committing more than two fouls in a single game.

Matondo is another player to look out for in this market, having committed five fouls in his only previous outing in the competition, but after a couple of months out, his minutes are likely to be restricted.

Over 6.5 Rangers Corners

Rangers are expected to dominate this game, and that is likely to mean a high corner count against an Aris side that gives up a lot of these situations.

The Cypriots have conceded at least six corners in each of their four Europa League group stage matches this season, giving up 18 in their two away matches. Indeed, Rangers managed to win six corners against them in Cyprus when they were not even playing well just a couple of months ago.

Should Clement’s men hit their stride in this encounter, they should be able to exert sufficient pressure to win at least seven corners.
