Wednesday 8pm: Arsenal v Lens
Champions League match at the Emirates Stadium, London
TV: TNT Sports

Arsenal -1

Arsenal suffered a damaging defeat against Lens in the reverse fixture at the beginning of October, but back-to-back wins against Sevilla have all but secured their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

That victory seems to have helped kickstart Lens’ season, with the French side recently moving into the top six in Ligue 1 after recovering from a dreadful start that left them in the relegation zone in mid-September.

They are unbeaten in eight games in Ligue 1 and are in with a fighting chance of qualifying for the knockout stage but they have little chance of getting a result at the Emirates on Wednesday.

The Gunners moved back to the Premier League summit with a win at Brentford on Saturday evening and have won both of their Champions League home ties by at least two goals.

Mikel Arteta’s side will qualify for the knockout stages with a draw on Wednesday, but they should seal qualification with a flourish.

Over 2.5 Lens Cards

No team in Europe has a worse disciplinary record in Europe than Lens. The French side have received a staggering number of cards in their four Champions League games, receiving 16 bookings and one sending off at an average of over four cards per game.

They have astonishingly received 12 cards in two away Champions League games this season and are likely to receive at least three against an Arsenal side that possesses a number of fleet-footed attackers.

Lens to Commit 12 or more Fouls

Given their high number of cards, it is no surprise to learn that Lens have also committed a relatively high number of fouls in the Champions League this season, averaging 13.3 fouls per game in the competition.

They have also committed an average of almost 15 fouls per game in Ligue 1.

There is a good chance that they will commit at least a dozen fouls at the Emirates, despite Arsenal’s record of drawing fouls ranking among the lowest in Europe.

The Gunners have drawn an average of just 8.8 fouls per game in Europe this season but have drawn significantly more fouls at home, with their opponents averaging 11.5 fouls per game.

The away side average among the worst teams in Europe in terms of keeping possession, while Arsenal rank among the best, increasing the chances of a high number of Lens fouls.

Bukayo Saka to have 3 or more Shots

Bukayo Saka has been absolutely vital to Arsenal’s success this season. The English winger is the Gunner’s top scorer in all competitions with six goals, while he has also registered more assists than any other Arsenal player, recording eight assists in the league and Champions League.

Saka averages roughly two shots per game in all competitions this season and is likely to try his luck on several occasions on Wednesday night considering their European record.

Arteta’s side average 13.5 shots per game in Europe and have attempted 29 shots in two home games to date, meaning they are likely to take on at least a dozen shots on Wednesday. Saka is good value to be responsible for at least three of them.

Under 9.5 Corners

No Arsenal game in Europe this season has seen 10 corners or more. The Gunners have won the most corners in the Premier League this year, but they have only won 18 corners in their four Champions League games at an average of 4.5 per game.

At the other end, they have conceded just 12 corners in four games at an average of three per game.

They have also conceded the third-lowest number of shots in the competition and are unlikely to be overly troubled against Lens.
