Paris Saint-Germain vs Newcastle: Champions League, Group F
Parc des Princes, Paris, Tuesday, 8:00pm
TNT Sports 2

This was dubbed the group of death with good reason and with just two games remaining all four teams still have a chance to reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

PSG are second and will look to get revenge over Newcastle who thrashed them 4-1 at St James’ Park. The Toon need a win to maintain their hopes of qualification which took a hit after two back-to-back defeats to Dortmund.

Kylian Mbappe to have 4 or more shots

You can’t talk about Paris Saint-Germain without referencing Kylian Mbappe, and the mercurial Frenchman is the focus of the first leg of our Bet Builder.

In Ligue 1 he’s averaged 4.9 shots per game and 3.5 in four Champions League games. Unlike some strikers who rely on service, Mbappe doesn’t, often creating goalscoring chances himself.

That bodes well for him having four or more shots because regardless of how PSG are doing he will get shots off. That either happens if they’re putting Newcastle under real pressure or if they’re winning then he’ll get chances on the counter.

Kylian Mbappe to score

We are also backing Mbappe to bag a goal from at least one of those shots. He’s only scored two in four Champions League games so far – a 50% goals-to-games ratio probably one that he’d be unhappy with given his quality.

That said, he’s been in great form domestically, scoring 14 goals in Ligue 1.

He simply will get chances to score here and I don’t believe Newcastle can keep him out all game. They did it once at St James’ Park and lightning doesn’t strike twice.

Ousmane Dembele to win two or more fouls

Ousmane Dembele’s electric pace makes him a real menace and he’ll fancy himself against the relatively inexperienced Lewis Hall.

Dembele has started all four of his team’s Champions League games and been fouled eight times across those four matches, an average of twice per game.

Domestically those numbers drop to 1.5 times per game but with his blistering pace and a Newcastle backline, who despite being very organised, can be a slow, he should be able to get past players enough that they’re forced to bring him down.

Bruno Guimaraes to commit 1 or more fouls in the first half

The 26-year-old plays more like a European than he does the stereotypical Brazilian but he plays a hugely important role for Newcastle, breaking down attacks protecting his back four. He’s picked up eight yellow cards for Newcastle this season which probably gives you an idea that sometimes his industry can turn to fouling.

He’s averaged 1.5 fouls per game across all competitions this season and I’m expecting him to get one in early to set the tone in what is a must-win game for his club.

Anthony Gordon to be shown a card

People questioned the transfer fee when Anthony Gordon moved to Newcastle but this season he’s really shown why Eddie Howe was keen to bring him in. He’s been sensational in the Premier League, scoring five and assisting three more, with a goal and assist this past weekend against Chelsea.

If it wasn’t for his disciplinary issues he’d almost certainly have been called up by Gareth Southgate to the England squad by now, but he’s already picked up seven yellows in all competitions and can at times be petulant and rash.

With this being a hugely important game and being matched up opposite the brilliant Achraf Hakimi, I’m expecting to see him struggle to keep a cool head here and find himself in the referee’s book.
