Celtic to win -1 handicap

Saturday’s Premiership clash between Celtic and Aberdeen promises to be an exciting match at Parkhead, with the home side clear favourites to win this game.

Although Celtic played nearly an hour on Tuesday down to 10 men in a 6-0 loss to Atletico Madrid, they were able to preserve their energy with early changes, while the Dons had an exhausting Thursday night trip to Greece, where they worked hard to draw 2-2 against PAOK. The Hoops should hold an edge in terms of energy levels.

Furthermore, Brendan Rodgers’ side tend to dominate this fixture in any case. Celtic have beaten Aberdeen by at least two clear goals on each of the last three occasions the teams have met, including 5-0 and 4-0 wins last season and a 3-1 success back in August.

Celtic will feel they owe their fans a performance after their midweek defeat.

(-1)

Over 2.5 goals

With nine of Celtic’s previous 12 league matches having yielded at least three goals, look for that run to continue against an Aberdeen side that is not necessarily the most robust defensively.

Since the September international break, only against Hibs has a Celtic match produced under three goals, with that away trip ending scoreless. Rodgers’ side, meanwhile, are averaging almost two goals per game themselves.

Aberdeen’s matches tend to be a little tighter but they have conceded at least two goals in each of their last four competitive outings, all of which have been against opponents of a lesser calibre than the home side.

History says this should be a high-scoring game, too, with six of the last eight between these clubs producing at least three goals.

Slobodan Rubezic to be shown a card

Aberdeen are the cleanest team in the Scottish Premiership this season, having seen only 15 yellow cards to date this season, but centre-back Slobodan Rubezic is something of an exception, having been cautioned four times in his 10 league outings for the Dons and six times in 19 games overall.

The 23-year-old Montenegro international may have tempered his game since the start of the season, but he is a physical player and is likely to run the risk of putting a foot wrong at Celtic Park, where the quality of the home side will stretch him.

The price for Rubezic to make his way into the notebook of referee Willie Collum is nice value.

Luis Palma to score anytime

With Kyogo Furuhashi strangely off-colour in front of goal in the Premiership – he has scored only one goal in his last seven – Celtic are having to look elsewhere for players to put the ball in the net. Of course, the Japan international’s barren run will end sometime, but with him priced at around 1.83, there is better value in seeking the Hoops’ form players.

To that end, Luis Palma looks a strong option at 2.7. The winger has scored four times in his last eight matches and is looking an increasingly smart summer signing from Aris as he settles into the team.

The 23-year-old typically plays only around an hour, but he should be expected to get more than that against the Dons. He was taken off at half-time against Atleti after being booked in the first half and he has nothing to preserve his energy for in this game given that there’s a two-week international break coming up.

Palma will be invited to empty his energy reserves against Aberdeen, and as an in-form scorer should be backed to continue his good run.

Total Celtic corners over 6.5

Celtic are set to dominate this match, and that is liable to be reflected in their corner count. Indeed, the hosts should be strongly favoured to manage at least seven corners over the course of the match, with that well below their season average of 8.33 per game. Remarkably, they average 11 corners per game in the Scottish Premiership in home matches this season, such is their dominance of games typically.

Meanwhile, only Ross County, St Johnstone and Dundee concede more corners than Aberdeen’s average of 5.7 against. This figure rises to 5.83 when on their travels.

When the sides met in the Granite City back in August, there were nine corners each. While Aberdeen would be doing well to hit that figure again, it comes as standard for Celtic.
