West Ham to qualify for the next round

With a huge trip to Newcastle on the horizon for Arsenal this weekend, it’s fair to assume that this trip to West Ham will take a back seat for manager Mikel Arteta. Arteta has never prioritised the League Cup as Arsenal manager, with their run to the semi-finals in the 2021/22 season by far the closest they have come to winning the competition.

Like most other big six clubs, Arsenal field weakened sides in the competition, especially in the early stages, providing West Ham with an opportunity for a scalp. West Ham were awful in their 1-0 home defeat against Everton on Sunday, but David Moyes’s side were facing a team that hates having the ball even more than West Ham, taking the Hammers out of their comfort zone.

There will be no such problems against Arsenal on Wednesday, with Arteta’s men likely to dominate the ball and allow West Ham to play on the counter. West Ham have been responsible for knocking out some of the big guns in recent League Cup campaigns, dumping both Manchester clubs out of the competition in recent seasons. Arsenal could be next so we’ll take West Ham to Qualify.

Both Teams To Score

There is a very good chance that Arsenal will find the back of the net. The Gunners have scored in every game that they have played this season and have scored the third-highest number of goals in the Premier League after 10 games.

West Ham, meanwhile, have conceded 17 goals in 10 league games and have kept just two clean sheets in all competitions so far this season – at home to Sheffield United and in away to Lincoln in the League Cup. The chances of them adding to their small tally of clean sheets against such a potent Arsenal side are minimal, but West Ham have plenty of firepower of their own capable of hurting an understrength Arsenal defence.

West Ham have put three past both Brighton and Chelsea this season, while they have caused plenty of problems for the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle. They should cause problems for Arsenal on Wednesday and I can see Both Teams Scoring.

Over 2.5 West Ham Cards

West Ham were the best disciplined side in the Premier League last season, picking up just 44 yellow cards in 38 games and receiving no red cards. They are far from being the best disciplined side in the division this season, however.

The Hammers have picked up 24 bookings and one sending off in just 10 league games and are on course to equal their tally for last season by the midway point of this season. Three West Ham players – Edson Alvarez, Lucas Paqueta, and Emerson – have already picked up five yellow cards this season.

There is a good chance that Moyes’ side will be on the receiving end of at least three cards against Arsenal.

Over 10.5 Corners

No club was won more corners in the Premier League this season than Arsenal. The Gunners have won 82 corners in 10 league games so far at a rate of over eight corners per game and have won five corners per game in the Champions League.

They will likely win a number of corners. West Ham, meanwhile, rank at the other end of the table in terms of corners per game, winning just 47 in 10 league games so far at an average of under five per game.

However, a good portion of the Hammers’ goal threat comes from set pieces and they should at least match their average of five corners per game against Arsenal. Together, the two sides should win 11 corners or more.

Jarrod Bowen To Score Anytime

Jarrod Bowen has enjoyed a sensational start to the season. The West Ham winger has scored six league goals in 10 appearances this season, leaving him fifth in the league’s scoring charts.

Bowen has scored almost half of West Ham’s league goals, scoring vital goals in the wins over Sheffield United, Luton, and Brighton. He also led the West Ham fightback against both Liverpool and Aston Villa. He is by far the most likely West Ham player to find the back of the net.
