We’re well into the 2023/24 Premier League season now and we’re gearing up for another busy weekend in the English top flight. There’s the little matter of a Merseyside Derby to kick us off after a long, cold international break as Everton travel to Liverpool at 12.30pm on Saturday.

We’ve got a Saturday full to the brim of action with a host of 3pm matches followed by Chelsea v Arseanl on the box at 5.30pm. There’s a bonus 8pm televised match as well as Manchester United head to Yorkshire to take on Sheffield United. Sunday’s TV game is Aston Villa v West Ham while Spurs and Fulham go at it on Monday night.
So, with the weekend hurling towards us once again, there’s no time to waste and it’s only right that we bring in our resident tipster and Premier League predicting guru, Mark Lawrenson who will be battling it out with a Paddy punter in our Challenge Lawro game. But first, here’s what Lawro’s crystal ball has revealed this weekend.
Saturday 12.30pm: Liverpool v Everton
TV: TVT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate
You have to fancy Liverpool. Invariably the Merseyside derby is tight with loads of bookings and plenty of effort. Both teams will not change the way they play with Liverpool getting it down and playing while Everton are a bit route one. Liverpool 2-0 Everton.
Saturday 3pm: Bournemouth v Wolves
This is Gary O’Neil going back to Bournemouth and the home side are yet to win a game this season so that tells you how good a decision that was. I’m going with Wolves because slowly but surely they’re starting to look like a good team. Bournemouth 1-2 Wolves.
Saturday 3pm: Brentford v Burnley
I’m with Brentford in this one. They’ve not won for six games but I fancy them. I just can’t see Burnley, defensively, dealing with what Brentford have got in attack. Brentford 2-0 Burnley.
Saturday 3pm: Manchester City v Brighton
I’ll go with a narrow home win. I think most of Manchester City’s players are fit now, obviously they’re still missing Kevin De Bruyne. They just lost to Arsenal last time but I think they’ll kick on now and this should be a wonderful game. Manchester City 2-1 Brighton.
Saturday 3pm: Newcastle v Crystal Palace
TV: Premier Sports 1
I’m going to go for Newcastle to win this comfortably. They’ve got the bit between their teeth now and they’ve started to look like the team we know they are after a tough start to the season. I just don’t fancy Palace up there on the road to get anything. Newcastle 3-0 Crystal Palace.
Saturday 3pm: Nottingham Forest v Luton
Nottingham Forest are doing okay and, compared to last year, it’s been a big improvement at this stage which is all you can ask for. I think they’ll nick this – just. Might be one best watched behind the settee. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Luton.
Saturday 5.30pm: Chelsea v Arsenal
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Both of these won last time but I feel this will be a draw. Arsenal had a massive win against Manchester City and they seem to have this knack of scoring really, really late goals which is great but I would suggest that Chelsea are improving a lot. Chelsea 1-1 Arsenal.
Saturday 8pm: Sheff United v Man United
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I’m just wondering whether the latest news surrounding the buyout with have any effect on the Manchester United players. Generally it doesn’t, but I think it might actually lift them a little bit. Sheffield United struggle because they concede loads of goals – more than anyone in the league. Sheffield United 0-2 Manchester United.
Sunday 4.30pm: Aston Villa v West Ham
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
The classic claret and blue derby. I’ll side with Aston Villa. They’re going along nicely in 5th and you get the impression with Unai Emery that he just loves coaching players. I bet they have long sessions on the training ground and everything will have to be absolutely perfect! Aston Villa 2-1 West Ham.
Monday 8pm: Tottenham v Fulham
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Spurs have done well and Ange Postecoglou has done great. He’s obviously got something special about him. Fulham are not great on the road so it’s got to be a home win as they’ve not been Spursy – yet! Tottenham 2-0 Fulham.
