The latest football odds are on PaddyPower.com nowRejoice – league football is back after the drab affair of the international break (especially if you’re Irish).
And the eve of the return of major European league football, I’ve a bet-builder to get the weekend off to the bet possible start, covering three games on the continent.
Let’s get stuck in.
8pm: Le Havre v Lens
Lens to win
Last seasons Ligue 1 runners up restart the French League’s action as they travel to Le Havre to face off against the newly promoted and last years Ligue 2 champions. Only a point separates the teams after eight league games this season with Le Havre ahead of Lens who’ve had a slow start to the season – do the underlying numbers tell a different story though?
Lens have four more points than Le Havre looking at the expected points metric which calculates your average expected goals for and expected goals against to give an expected points metric.
So essentially, they haven’t been getting the results their performances have deserved. Lens have been juggling Champions League football to their league campaign this season where they sit top of their group after beating Arsenal in matchday 2.
They’re unbeaten in their last three league games and should have to much for Le Havre and I’m backing them to continue the good form they brought into the international break.
Under 3.5 goals
Only two of Lens 10 games this season have had over 3.5 goals and that includes none of their last seven games. Le Havre have only scored twice in their last four league games and I’m not expecting a cracker here as a result, adding the under 3,5 goals gives the match odds a nice boost.
7:30pm: Dortmund v Werder Bremen
Dortmund to win & both teams to score
Goals, goals and more goals has been the theme of the German Bundesliga so far this season with most goal lines being the over/under 3.5 goal mark than the usual 2.5 we’re used to. Dortmund are heavy favorites for this one, unbeaten in the league this season whereas their visitors Werder Bremen have lost five of their seven matches.
They’re a short price at home Dortmund, so adding in both teams to score boosts up the price to above evens and considering Bremen have scored twice in each of their last four league games, this selection looks a lock in.
8pm: Osasuna v Granada
Both teams to Score
Over 2.5 goals
Off to Spain now for our last match and last two legs of our multi match bet builder. Something will have to give on Friday night as Osasuna, winless at home and just the single goal in front of their own fans this season entertain Granada, winless away from home this season.
Granada have however though hit seven goals away from home this season, and I’m expecting this game to have a bit of life in it. Osasuna on paper, should have more than enough about them to beat Granada, but their home form does worry me.
So I’m going with both teams to score and over 2.5 goals – I’m sitting on the fence in this last game and we’re hoping that there will be goals. Granada have already been involved in a 3-3, 5-3, and 3-1 scorelines away from home this season, so more of the same please lads!
