Man Utd to Win Both Teams to Score Man Utd Goalkeeper to Make Four or More Saves Alejandro Garnacho to Score or Assist Man Utd to Commit 11 or More Fouls
Manchester United’s win over Burnley on Saturday night was not pretty, but it was incredibly important. They had lost three games on the spin prior to that trip to Turf Moor and had to cope with a full team’s worth of injuries, so any victory would have been a boost.
Erik Ten Hag’s side now have a kind fixture list to look forward to with games against Crystal Palace (twice), Brentford, Sheffield United, Galatasaray, and Copenhagen on the immediate horizon. If they can get some of their players back to fitness and find some form, they may just be able to get their season back on track.
It all must start with a win – and performance – against Palace in the Carabao Cup. This is the first of two meetings between United and Palace at Old Trafford in the space of four days and United should be aiming to win both.
Palace have made a solid yet unremarkable start to the season, winning two, drawing two, and losing two of their opening six league games. United should have received a boost from the win over Burnley and should get the defence of their League Cup title off to a winning start.
Both Teams to Score
United may have kept a clean sheet at Turf Moor, but they were far from convincing defensively. Burnley spurned several chances against United, who boast the joint-worst defensive record in the league outside the bottom five.
United have conceded 10 goals in six league games, with five of them coming in two games at Old Trafford. They also conceded four sloppy goals against Bayern Munich in a dreadful defensive display. Palace do not score lots of goals themselves but will be confident of breaching the United defence at least once.
Man Utd Goalkeeper to Make Four or More Saves
Whether Andre Onana starts or Ten Hag gives game time to one of his back-up goalkeepers, whoever is between the sticks for United on Tuesday night is likely to be busy.
United have faced a minimum of four shots on target in every game they have played this season and have faced a total of 42 shots on target in just seven games in all competitions, an average of exactly six shots per game.
Each team they have come up against has found joy against the United defence, cutting through a porous midfield to create big goalscoring opportunities. Palace, meanwhile, have registered 32 shots on target in six league games to date at an average of over five per game.
They should test the United ‘keeper on multiple occasions on Tuesday night.
It has been a frustrating start to the season for Alejandro Garnacho following such an eye-catching breakthrough season last year.
Often ineffective as starter and not given enough time off the bench, Garnacho has so far failed to ignite this season and didn’t even come off the bench in the win over Burnley.
He should get a chance on Tuesday, with Ten Hag likely to rotate his team from Saturday night’s win. The Argentine assisted twice on his League Cup debut for United last season in a 4-2 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford and can cause plenty of problems for the Palace defence.
He can register his first goal involvement of the season here.
Man Utd to Commit 11 or More Fouls
United were the third-worst disciplined side in the Premier League last season, receiving 78 yellow cards and four red cards in 38 games. Their record this season has been better so far, but there is still every chance that they will commit at least 11 fouls.
United have received 16 yellow cards in six league games this season – leaving them ninth in the league’s fair play table – and commit an average of 10.5 fouls per game. They have curiously committed more fouls at home, committing 36 fouls in three home games at an average of 12 fouls per game.
It’s quite easy to see United making numerous fouls if they are winning and hanging on to a slender lead with time running out.
