Ajax v Marseilles

Europa League, Group B
Johan Cruijff Arena
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm

Over 2.5 Goals

Things aren’t exactly going to plan for either Ajax or Marseille this season, indeed, both sides have won just one of their last five fixtures so they will both look to this game as where they can hopefully kickstart their seasons. Both sides are at least scoring a decent amount of goals however, scoring seven of their last five each.

We should therefore see both scoring here and with home advantage we should probably see Ajax score a second. The away side have the talent though to also score a second so let’s settle on seeing at least three goals.

Brighton v AEK Athens

Europa League, Group B
Amex Stadium
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm

Both Teams to Score

As good as Brighton are and as much as manager Roberto De Zerbi deserves praise for making his side so, there’s one thing being overlooked by pundits. Brighton keep very few clean sheets. Of their last 10 competitive games they’ve only kept one and of their last 10 at home, they’ve only kept two. AEK have scored 10 goals over their last seven games, four of which were in Europe so there’s good value here in backing Both Teams to Score landing.

Evan Ferguson to Score

It looks like Irish wunderkind Even Ferguson will get the nod here after coming on as a substitute in the Seagulls’ 1-3 win over Manchester United over the weekend. With four goals to his name this season he’s going to be eager to open a European tally.

Given that AEK will surely sit back and soak up pressure here, Ferguson is going to have space to attack and we saw against Newcastle how devastating he can be when that happens.

Rangers v Betis

Europa League, Group C
Ibrox Stadium
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm

Over 2.5 Goals

Ranger’s 0-2 win over St Johnstone over the weekend will have done them the world of good and gotten recent losses to Celtic and PSV out of their system. At Ibrox this season the hosts have scored 10 goals over their last five fixtures. Betis have won two, drawn one and lost two over their last five while on their travels have won one and lost two, scoring four and conceding 10. With stats like these, we have to back goals.

West Ham v TSC

Europa League, Group A
London Stadium
TV: TNT Sports, 8pm

Both Teams to Score, No

West Ham’s strong start to the season came to an end with a 1-3 defeat to Champions Manchester City on Saturday afternoon in a game where the Hammers were still pretty good.

There’s little doubt they’ll have too much for their Serbian opponents here and in front of a crowd of 70,000-odd, where TSC play to less than 4000 usually we think the occasion is going to get to them. West Ham’s defence shouldn’t be conceding here.

West Ham -2

West Ham are away to Liverpool on Sunday but being on 10 points after five games, manager David Moyes doesn’t really need to rotate his best XI here in preparation for the visit to Merseyside.

He might tinker with a couple of positions but it’s expected he’ll play a more-or-less full-strength XI. The Hammers are enjoying their football of late and they can use this game as one where they can build their goal difference. They’ll surely win by at least three goals.
