Monday 8:00pm: Nottingham Forest v Burnley
English Premier League, The City Ground, Nottingham
TV: Sky Sports Football
Nottingham Forest to win
Burnley sit rock bottom of the Premier League and although they, alongside Luton, have played one less game than everybody else, they are in trouble. They’ve conceded a Premier League high 11 goals and scored just three. Yes, one of their games was against Man City but what’s concerning is that Vincent Kompany doesn’t seem to want to compromise his style, which is a dangerous game in the top flight.
Forest, meanwhile, came into this game week mid-table and Steve Cooper has done an impressive job of molding this team into a dangerous attacking force. Last season they fought to survive in the Premier League but just four games in it feels like they’re now part of the furniture and here to stay. I’m expecting them to pick up the three points in front of a loud crowd under the lights.
Taiwo Awoniyi to have 1 or more shots on target
Taiwo Awoniyi has been exceptional so far this season and has continued where he left off at the tail end of the last campaign. He’s one of the better strikers outside the top six or seven clubs, as shown by three goals and an assist already. He’s been taking 1.8 shots per game and I’m backing him to get at least one on target against a poor Burnley defence.

Morgan Gibbs-White to have 2 or more shots
Gibbs-White is arguably the best player in the Forest squad and it’s still a surprise to me that he’s yet to get a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad. His understanding of space and positional awareness is great, and it gets him in places where he can either unleash a shot or play a dangerous pass.
Given how defensively naive Burnley have looked so far this season I’m backing Gibbs-White to have two shots in this game. He’s averaged 1.3 so far but the amount of space that Burnley have given the opposition give me confidence that he will get more chances to shoot than he’s had so far.
Lyle Foster to commit 1 or more fouls
Nobody in the Burnley team has given up more fouls than Lyle Foster, who is averaging two per game. The forward works hard and puts himself about but that’s one of the reasons that he ends up getting himself into trouble. He’ll be fired up for this one and I’m expecting him to commit another foul.
Josh Cullen to commit 1 or more fouls
Another Burnley player I’m expecting to commit a foul is Josh Cullen. The Irishman has averaged 1.7 per game this season and now finds himself in the midfield, in what already feels like a must-win for Burnley. It’s going to be a fiercely competitive game and I’m expecting the 27-year old to get blown up at least once.
