Friday 8:00pm: Southampton v Leicester
English Championship, St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton
TV: Sky Sports Football

Jan Bednarek to commit 1 or more fouls

Southampton’s Polish centre-back Jan Bednarek has been an ever-present in their team so far this season and has been performing well. He’s played every minute, which gives us an added bonus that we likely get the full 90 minutes for this one to come in.

He’s been averaging 0.8 fouls per game but despite not averaging one per game, we will be backing him to do so here. This is arguably Southampton’s toughest test yet and Leicester’s attacking talent are dangerous, which should increase the chances of a foul.

Ricardo Pereira to commit 1 or more fouls

It’s easy to forget but there was a period back in the 2019/20 season where it looked like Leicester right-back Ricardo Pereira would be heading to bigger Premier League rivals. For a number of reasons, including injury, it never happened but he’s a solid option and has started all five Championship games, looking really good down the right flank.

He’s averaged 1.8 tackles per game and a massive 1.4 fouls per game, so we’ll be backing him to commit another foul against Southampton. He’s likely to be matched up on Southampton left sided forward Samuel Edozie who is direct and quick and has been fouled 1.2 times per game on average this season.

Kieran Dewsbury-Hall to have 1 or more shots on target

Dewsbury-Hall didn’t leave Leicester this summer and the 25-year old has really thrived in the Championship. With James Maddison and Harvey Barnes now gone, he has become the team’s top midfielder and he’s rewarded the club with some stellar performances.

Again, he’s started every game and bagged two goals and an assist, but what is key for us is that he’s had an average of 3.6 shots per game. That’s an insanely high number and the most shots per game on his team by a large margin. If he keeps getting himself into positions to shoot then it’ll make us look very wise for backing him to get a shot on target.

Che Adams to have 1 or more shots on target

Despite being linked with a move away from St Mary’s Stadium, it never materialised for Che Adams, which is good news for Southampton. The 27-year old Scottish striker has only started one game so far this season but has seriously impressed, bagging three goals and showing why he was wanted in the Premier League.

I’m expecting him to start against Leicester and suggest backing him to get a shot on target, that said if you want to increase your odds you could consider the anytime goal market instead.

Thomas Cannon to score

The final leg of this Bet Builder is the most speculative but with good reason. We’ll be backing new singing Thomas Cannon to score. The 20-year old signed for Leicester for an undisclosed fee, believed to be just south of £10m from Everton. Last year he scored eight in 21 for Preston North End, who were desperate to sign him again themselves.

You don’t spend big money on a player like Cannon without planning to immediately get him involved and now he’s had the international break to settle into life at the club I’m certain that we’ll see him from the start. He’s a really talented player who’ll score goals in a Leicester team that has more creativity than he had at PNE and it wouldn’t be a shock if he were in the running for the Golden Boot come the end of the season. Back him to start off his Leicester career with a goal here.
