Draw

Newcastle may have started their season with a difficult run of games, but that does not excuse a return of three points from four games. Eddie Howe’s side were awful against Liverpool once Jurgen Klopp’s side went down to ten men and completely wilted against Brighton in their last game before the international break.

That is simply not good enough for a side with ambitions of finishing in the Champions League places.

They now face a Brentford side that is unbeaten after four games and fast becoming the Premier League’s draw specialists. Brentford have tied three of their four games this season, rescuing a home draw against Bournemouth in their last game before the break.

They will be difficult to break down and are well capable of frustrating a stuttering Newcastle side.

Both Teams to Score

The away side have managed one clean sheet in four games this season, conceding five goals, while the hosts are yet to register a clean sheet, conceding seven goals in their opening four games.

Both sides are threatening going forward, with Brentford replacing Ivan Toney’s goals with those of Yoane Wissa, Bryan Mbuemo, and Kevin Schade.

The Bees have the tools to hurt a vulnerable Toon defence, while Thomas Frank’s side are not all that convincing at the back themselves. All signs point to a score draw on Saturday.

Newcastle to Commit 13 or More Fouls

It is early days, but Newcastle’s foul count is far too high at present. Howe’s side have averaged 14 fouls per game in their four games so far this season, the most of any club in the Premier League.

That is not good enough considering the next seven sides on the list are all teams who will probably finish in the bottom half of the league. Newcastle appear to be stuck in a rut of petty fouling at present and could easily commit at least 13 fouls on Saturday, especially considering the pressure they are under.

Under 9.5 Corners

The home side also boast one of the worst records in the league in terms of corners per game. Howe’s side have won just 14 corners in four games at a rate of under four per game. Only Nottingham Forest have won fewer.

They rank seventh-lowest in terms of shots per game and it’s difficult to see them winning a huge number of corners even though Brentford represent an easier game on paper than their recent outings.

The Bees have faced an average of just under five corners per game and have faced the seventh-fewest number of shots in the league. At the other end Brentford have averaged just over five corners per game and face a Newcastle side that has conceded just over five per game. It is unlikely that the two sides will win ten corners or more between them.

Alexander Isak to have 1 or More Shots on Target

Alexander Isak has enjoyed a barnstorming start to the season, scoring twice in a 5-1 win over Aston Villa on the opening day. Isak’s form – like Newcastle’s – has nosedived since then and the Swedish striker is in need of a goal – and fast.

Isak has averaged two shots per game in the league for Newcastle this season and will be desperate to get on the scoresheet as soon as possible. He scored a crucial winner when the sides met in Brentford last season and will hope that he can repeat the trick again on Saturday.
