International Friendly at Hampden Park, Glasgow

England to take 4 or more corners

England, at least on paper, should be the dominant team in this game. They’ve got the better squad and are full of talent. That said, there’s a reason that I haven’t backed them to win. This is ultimately just a friendly, and as much as Gareth Southgate would like the victory, especially after that performance against Ukraine, he will use this to see some of those players in his squad who might not ordinarily start.

So given that I can’t trust we’ll see England’s best lineup I’d rather back Over 3.5 away corners, because there will be periods of the game where they have sustained pressure and can attack the Scottish goal.

Scotland to take 4 or more corners

We’re also taking Over 3.5 corners for the Scots too. They’ve won five from five in the qualifiers and have been really impressive. They’ve been Spain, Norway and Georgia once, plus two victories over Cyprus.

It’s Scotland, not England, coming into this one in good form and they’ll really believe that they have a good chance to beat the old enemy. Hampden Park will be loud and roaring their team on. I think Scotland should start well and pressure England straight away, giving them plenty of chances to get Over 3.5 corners.

Both teams to score? Yes

Scotland have scored 12 times in their five qualifying games this term and Scott McTominay has turned into a goal scoring machine when he puts on this nation’s shirt. This is a team, who unlike some Scottish teams of the past, know where the goal is and have been superbly coached by Steve Clarke.

England might have drawn their last game but they’ve been very good in qualifying as a whole and the fuss over one bad result has been overblown. Harry Kane will always be a goal threat but even if we don’t see much of the England captain, which I doubt, he’ll always be a danger. The England team have goals in them, so should score at least once.

Over 2.5 goals

The Scots have 12 goals in five game and England have 16. These are both teams more than capable of high scoring games and we should see Over 2.5 goals here, the real question is which team will score the most to seal the win.

I don’t know the answer to that but with both teams having had strong qualifying campaigns, and the likes of Che Adams and Harry Kane both starting their domestic seasons very well, we should see goals.

Harry Kane to score

Although I expect to see some rotation to the England team on Tuesday night it’s unlikely to involve the captain Harry Kane. We’ve seen previously that he’s always keen to play every single game for his country and regularly starts friendlies or competitive games against minnows.

He’s started his new life in Germany well, scoring three goals in three Bundesliga games. He was unusually quiet against Ukraine at the weekend but we can expect him to have chances against Scotland. He’s scored five goals in the five most recent England games and would love nothing more than to score against Scotland here. We’ll take him to score anytime.
