Tuesday night has a whole host of EFL Trophy games lined up. We’ve looked through the stats and form to find seven value picks from five of the best fixtures on offer.
AFC Wimbledon v Stevenage
Plough Lane, 7pm
BTTS
As the League One side, Stevenage come into their opening Group 11 match against AFC Wimbledon as favourites. They’re in similar form, both winning two, drawing two and losing one of their last five respective fixtures. The hosts have scored in all six of their most recent home games with the away side scoring in six of their last seven so Both Teams to Score kicks us off here.
Over 2.5 Goals
While both should be scoring here there’s enough firepower in both teams to land a third goal. The hosts have scored nine over their last five fixtures while the away side have scored six over their last five and seven over their last five on the road. At least three goals should be seen here.
Barrow v Blackpool
Holker Street, 7pm
BTTS
A little like the above game, Blackpool also come into this game as the favourites being higher up the football pyramid. That being said they are 12th in League One while Barrow are sixth in League Two. The hosts are decent on home soil, winning four, drawing one and losing two of their last seven, scoring 11 goals.
Blackpool haven’t had a good start to the season but they finally got a win after a winless run of four at the weekend against Wigan. They’re going to be eager to build on that so we’re going with a Both Teams to Score pick here.

Northampton v Oxford
Sixfields Stadium, 7pm
BTTS
Oxford are favourites here coming into the game having won four of their last five fixtures while the hosts have won two, drawn one and lost two over their last five. The U’s however have conceded an eye-watering nine goals over their last four away games so you’d have to expect Northampton to get at least one. Oxford should be winning here but there’s better value to be had in a Both Teams to Score pick.
Barnsley v Grimsby
Oakwell, 7:30pm
Over 2.5 Goals
Barnsley have scored a very healthy 11 goals over their four home games this season with Over 2.5 goals obviously being seen in all four of those matches. Grimsby have scored eight over their last five in all competitions and three over their three away games this season. Goals are certainly on the menu here so we’re backing Overs.
Bolton v Salford City
Toughsheet Community Stadium, 7:45pm
Bolton to Win
Bolton Wanderers are in decent nick on home soil, winning four of their six home games this season, losing the other two. Salford have only won one of their last five, drawing one (winning it on penalties) and losing three. On their travels they’ve won two, drawn one (winning it on penalties as well) and lost two.
Salford’s recent penalties win over Leeds in the League Cup was obviously a gruelling affair as they were 1-0 losers at Morecambe on Saturday, we think they’re still going to be feeling a tad tired here and the hosts should be coming out on top.
Over 2.5 Goals
Both sides have been among the goals of late with the hosts scoring seven over their last five fixtures and seven over their last five at home. Salford have scored six over their last five and eight over their last five on the road. This one should be ending 2-1 or above so we’re backing Over 2.5 Goals.
