The Premier League is well and truly back and this weekend’s jamboree kicks off under the Friday-night lights as Luton welcome West Ham to the newly-refurbished Kenilworth Road. It’s another newly-promoted side in action in Saturday’s early game as well as Sheffield United tackle the misfiring Everton.

Newcastle’s tough start to the season continues at Brighton on Saturday evening while Sunday’s TV games feature Crystal Palace v Wolves and Arsenal against the below-par Manchester United at The Emirates in the 4.30pm slot.

So, with the weekend hurling towards us once again, there’s no time to waste and it’s only right that we bring in our resident tipster and Premier League predicting guru, Mark Lawrenson who will be battling it out with a Paddy punter in our Challenge Lawro game. But first, here’s what Lawro’s crystal ball has thrown up this weekend.

Friday 8pm: Luton v West Ham

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

West Ham had, arguably, the result of the weekend at home against Brighton. I think this might be quite similar. Luton lost to Chelsea and had one or two opportunities but it’s a different pressure for them playing at home because you’re expected to push on. That will play in to West Ham’s hands. Luton 0-2 West Ham.

Saturday 12.30pm: Sheffield United v Everton

TV: TNT Sports 1 and TNT Sports Ultimate

It was mad last week with Sheffield United because they got back to 1-1 with Manchester City but still lost late on. I think this might be a draw. Everton have signed a striker in Beto but I suspect he’ll start on the bench. Sheffield United 1-1 Everton.

Saturday 3pm: Brentford v Bournemouth

I fancy Brentford to win this one. They look good and Bournemouth hardly had a touch of the ball against Tottenham last week, I thought Tottenham were really, really good and could have won far more comfortably. Brentford 2-0 Bournemouth.

Saturday 3pm: Burnley v Tottenham

If this had been between Christmas and the end of March I would have tipped Burnley all day long because Tottenham don’t like it when it’s cold and they’ve got to go up north! But I’m going to go for a Spurs away win, they were really impressive against Bournemouth. Burnley 0-2 Tottenham.

Saturday 3pm: Chelsea v Nottingham Forest

To be fair to Chelsea I thought they were decent last weekend, beating Luton and Raheem Sterling’s on fire, he looks great. With home advantage I fancy an easy Chelsea win. They’re slowly, slowly starting to build. They’ve had nice fixtures but you’ve still got to win them. Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest.

Saturday 3pm: Manchester City v Fulham

Fulham got a good result at Arsenal but I don’t think they can repeat it in this game. Manchester City look like they’re signing Matheus Nunes which should go through. We know Pep Guardiola’s not there but they’re on the phone to him! Fulham aren’t bad defensively and I love the defensive midfielder player, Joao Palhinha, but it’s got to be City to win. Manchester City 2-0 Fulham.

Saturday 5.30pm: Brighton v Newcastle

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Don’t take anything away from West Ham but Brighton were sucker punched in many ways last weekend. I’m going to back Brighton to get back to winning ways. It’s interesting with Newcastle at the moment, I just feel they are all looking in the mirror at the moment because they did extremely well last year. They’re in the Champions League and they’ve had a tough run to start the season but they just look a bit suspect at the back. I’m not sure they’ve got enough to break teams down but we’ll see. Brighton 2-1 Newcastle.

Sunday 2pm: Crystal Palace v Wolves

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Wolves beat Everton last weekend but it should really have been 1-1. I’ll go for Crystal Palace to nick this. I don’t know how much losing Nunes will upset Wolves. Crystal Palace 1-0 Wolves.

Sunday 2pm: Liverpool v Aston Villa

I really like the Villa manager Unai Emery, he’s very, very smart and tactically he’s as good as anybody. Liverpool are without Virgil van Dijk and there could be others missing, too. The last time Liverpool played at home they were iffy at best. Villa are strong, they’re athletic and good going forward so I’ll go for a draw. Liverpool 1-1 Aston Villa.

Sunday 4.30pm: Arsenal v Manchester United

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Everybody was moaning that Mikel Arteta played Thomas Partey at right back in the 2-2 draw with Fulham last weekend. Manchester United beat them last time but I’m going to go for Arsenal to turn the tables. It’s probably the game they need after a bit of a semi upset last week as United are all over the place at the moment. Arsenal 2-1 Manchester United.

So you’ve heard what Lawro has to say and, all throughout the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, Paddy’s going to be dishing out free bets to shop customers who can out-shout our mighty game-guessing guru each and every match day.
