We’ve a heady mix of Carabao Cup and Champions League qualification action on Wednesday night and we’ll kick off at Stamford Bridge where Chelsea tackle AFC Wimbledon of League Two. The hosts are huge favourites to win inside the 90 minutes here but I don’t think the Dons will be a total pushover.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to ring the changes and the Blues could look even more disjointed than usual. Wimbledon are yet to lose this season and have already played six competitive games, knocking out Championship side Coventry in the last round of the Carabao.
It’s hard to see a team that cost over £7 gazillion not beating League Two opposition, but I think it might pay to back Wimbledon (+3) in the handicap markets. Essentially we’re after anything narrower than a two-goal Chelsea win which, everything considered, has a decent chance.
7.45pm: Nottingham Forest v Burnley
We’re off to the City Ground next for an all Premier League clash which will probably depend a lot on the respective selected XIs. Obviously we have no idea at the time of writing but if one team’s going to go stronger than the other it might well be Burnley as they’ve played a game fewer than their hosts and are yet to win this season.
While The Clarets have lost both of their Premier League games this season they’ve had tough tests at home to Manchester City and Aston Villa. They’re normally good for a few goals and a strong starting XI should be good value to a goal or two here.
Forest’s games have been a thrill a minute this season with Both Teams Scoring and Over 2.5 Goals in all three so far, including matches against Arsenal and Manchester United. This could be a decent game with a few goals so we’ll take Over 2.5 Goals here.
The worst team in the Premier League head to the worst side in League Two as Everton travel to Doncaster in front of the TV cameras who will be hoping for an upset. As dire as Everton have been this season, playing three games, scoring no goals and conceding six, I can’t quite bring myself to say they’ll lose this.
Donny have lost four of their six games this season with their only win coming in this competition against Hull at the start of the month. They are, at least, scoring plenty but they’re shipping loads too so even Everton might be able to break their duck in this game.
I think Sean Dyche will go quite strong with his team to try and get much needed, confidence-boosting win. It could be a struggle, given their woeful form in front of goal, but I think Everton (-1) is worth a go. If they can’t grab a couple against a side who have shipped 12 goals in five League Two matches the Toffees might as well pack up now and start looking up the addresses of Championship grounds.
8pm: PSV Eindhoven v Rangers
TV: TNT Sports 1
We close out our Multi-Match Bet Builder with Rangers’ Champions League qualifier against PSV Eindhoven. These two played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Ibrox last week with the Dutch side pegging The Gers back on two occasions. Funnily enough, these two met each other in the qualifiers last season and the first leg also ended 2-2 with Rangers going on to win 1-0 in Eindhoven.
PSV To Win
I’m not sure history will repeat itself here, though. That away draw last Tuesday was the first game PSV had failed to win this season while Rangers have won four, drawn two and lost one so the hosts are in the overall better form.
PSV are still smarting from that loss 12 months ago and they way they repeatedly fought back in the first game makes me think they might turn the tables here. It’s quite short but I think PSV to Win is the way to go.
Cyriel Dessers to Commit 2 Or More Fouls
While Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers has failed to trouble opposition keepers much in the opening weeks of the season, he’s been keeping referees busy. He’s averaging 2.6 fouls per 90 minutes, though he doesn’t often last the full duration of the game.
He’s quite clever with his fouling and is yet to pick up a booking this term so we’ll veer away form the cards markets. Instead I think Dessers to Commit 2 Or More Fouls should have a good chance.
