It’s Tuesday night and the second round of EFL Cup brings in the Premier League clubs who have no European football to look forward to. Tottenham and Chelsea join 10 other Premier League clubs who all feature in round 2 and I’ll be looking at my best selections from the first night of action, as well as selection from Turkey.

Fulham v Tottenham

Tottenham to win

We’re starting off with an all Premier League, London derby as Tottenham look to continue their bright start to the season with a trip to a happy hunting ground in recent years. Craven Cottage is the venue as Ange Postecoglou’s men face off against Fulham. Tottenham have beaten Fulham in the Cottage on their last seven visits and will be looking to build on their early season momentum with another win.

The league cup represents the best chance Tottenham have of ending their 15 year trophy drought and is a tournament Postecoglou will take seriously.

The Australian did admit after Spurs’ 2-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend that a couple of changes will be made to the starting XI – but I’m backing on it to be strong enough still for them to progress through to the third round.

Bournemouth v Swansea

Bournemouth to win & Both teams to score

In our second game of the night, I’m backing another away win with Bournemouth to win and both teams to score as they travel to Swansea.

Swansea have had a slow start to the Championship season with two draws and two defeats from their opening four matches and both teams to score has landed in each of those four games.

Bournemouth in the Premier League have a point less than this evenings opponents having played a game less – but also have had tough fixtures. West Ham, Liverpool & Tottenham all occupy the top 4 places at this early stage and aren’t the teams Bournemouth will be worried about come end of the season.

Their have been positives to take from those performances under new head coach Andoni Iraola, and I think the Cherries will secure their first win of the campaign at Swansea.

Tranmere v Leicester

Leicester to win

A shorter selection next as Championship table toppers Leicester travel to League 2 side Tranmere in the second round. Leicester have won all five of their matches this season, with 12 points from a possible 12 in the Championship and a routine 2-0 win over Burton Albion in the first round of the cup.

Many are expecting the Foxes to have no problems in returning back to the Premier League at the first time of asking and it would be a big shock if they were to exit the cup tonight.

They play a Tranmere side who have one win from their opening five League 2 fixtures and are languishing in 21st place, 68 places below tonight’s visitors.
At odds on, I don’t mind putting Leicester into our multi match bet builder.

Galatasaray v Molde

Galatasaray to win

Mauro Icardi to score

Off to Europe now where Galatasaray are looking to end their three year absence from the Champions League as they host Norwegian side Molde in the second-leg of their Champions League play-off round.

The Turkish side won 3-2 in the away leg last week and just need to avoid defeat to progress to the Champions League Group stages.

Former Argentinian international Mauro Icardi has been influential in the qualifiers do far, with a goal in each of their last two European games either side of a brace in their last league win over Trabzonspor.

The striker has scored 15 goals in his last 18 matches and while new signings Wilfred Zaha and Hakim Ziyech are unregistered at this stage, the Turkish side will be relying on Icardi to fire them back to the Champions League
