7:30pm: AC Milan v Torino

AC Milan to win & Under 3.5 goals

AC Milan have been the biggest spenders in Serie A this summer, bringing in a host of new, young, yet experienced players.

Samuel Chukwueze, Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders are just some of the faces brought in using the €64m fee received for the departure of Sandro Tonali.

On the face of it, these look like good players that can improve this Milan squad who ended last season strongly after relinquishing their Serie A title to Napoli.

The Rosseneri started the season last week with a 2-0 win at Bolonga and I’m backing them to go two wins from two when they host Torino on Saturday evening.

Torino are typically tough to beat but do lack firepower. They opened the season with a drab goalless draw at home to Cagliari and have failed to score in the last seven league meetings they’ve had against Milan at the San Siro. With Mike Maignan staking a claim to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world in 2023, I can’t see Torino causing too much trouble.

We can boost the Milan match odds to evens from 4/6 by adding in under 3.5 goals which is my second leg for this game.

I’m going with AC Milan to win & Under 3.5 goals.

8pm: Paris St-G v Lens

PSG to win & Kylian Mbappe to score

Over to France where PSG continue with life without Lionel Messi & Neymar this Saturday evening. And although it looked like for much of the summer that Kylian Mbappe would be following his superstar teammates out the door – the French Captain was frozen out of PSG’s pre-season and looked set for a season on the sidelines before a resolution was reached at the 11th hour and the French captain was reintegrated to the squad where he looks set to stay for one final season.

His first appearance this season came from the bench last week away to Toulouse and any fears that we might see a half-committed Mbappe this season were quashed when within 10 minutes of coming on he had won – and converted a penalty to announce his return.

PSG somehow managed to squander the three points when Achraf Hakimi made a needless foul in the penalty area in the last 10 minutes which gave Toulouse a penalty of their own which was converted to draw the game.

PSG head into this home game with Lens with just two points from their opening two games and will need a win to kick-start their season.

I’m backing them to win, and for Kylian Mbappe to score on his Parc de Prince return.

8pm: Gil Vicente v Benfica

Over 2.5 goals

We’re off to Portugal next for defending champions Benfica heading to Gil Vicente. Benfica have only played two times in the league this term but they’ve already lost a third of the games they did in the last campaign thanks to a 3-2 loss at Boavista on the opening day.

Gil Vicente, like Benfica, have lost one and won one so far and the hosts find themselves above their more prestigious opponents by virtue of goal difference, but it’s unlikely that will be the case come 11pm on Saturday night.

An early common theme in these two’s games have been goals – and lots of them. Benfica fans have seen seven across their two games and the hosts have had eight in two. With those kind of numbers Over 2.5 Goals looks like a goer.

8:30pm: Sevilla v Girona

Both Teams to score

We’ll finish in La Liga where the beaten Super Cup finalists Sevilla, who are still looking for their first win of the season, welcome Girona to Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. Girona have made a promising start and have four points thanks to a draw at Sociedad and a comprehensive 3-0 win over Getafe.

Sevilla are big favourites here but we can’t back them with any confidence given their early-season struggles. Instead we’ll try to make the most of a small trend that’s emerged in their three competitive fixtures in 2023/24 and that’s Both Teams To Score.

Both teams have bagged in both La Liga games and they managed to score against Manchester City in their 1-1 Super Cup draw after 90 minutes before losing on penalties. Girona shut out Getafe but shared a 1-1 draw with Sociedad in their other game.
