Sheffield United v Man City

After the Super Cup you thought City might not be up for the Newcastle game but they didn’t let them have a kick last Saturday night.

I was at their game last week for TV , and when you see them up close, even with all the players they have out and the players we’ve seen leave, they’re still look so good.

It’s a big ask for Sheffield United to do anything against them on Sunday.

They’ve lost to Palace and Forest already and you just can’t see anything other than a City win here.

Phil Foden especially stood out to me in that central area. He looked like he’d gone up a few gears.

This is a big year for Foden, and with Kevin De Bruyne out, this is an opportunity for him. Bernardo was out too, and he had a real chance to take a game by the scruff of the neck.

And he did just that.

He was on the ball in that pocket behind the striker, was running at people, getting on the half-turn and slipping in Erling Haaland – he didn’t have his shooting boots on for once – but Foden played him through regularly. It was beautiful to watch.

I can see him doing the same against Sheffield United, and he should get a few shots on target at least.

And Haaland shouldn’t have another game like he did against Newcastle.

He’s got to be on the scoresheet in a City win.

Newcastle v Liverpool
TV: Sky Sports Main Event

We thought Newcastle were flying after they beat Villa on the opening weekend but City were too good.

They struggled big time.

Harvey Barnes stood out when he came on in the second half. I can see him starting for them soon, if not this weekend.

He’s another of the spot-on signings they’ve made since the takeover. You’d have thought, when the Saudi owners came in, that they’d just go full Galacticos but they haven’t.

They’ve been really astute in the transfer market, and they’re settling in well.

The fact they’re at home against Liverpool makes this feel like a proper big game – we all know the history between the two clubs too with those great games in the nineties, they’re still stuck in everyone’s memory who saw them.

This’ll be a real test for Liverpool.

They got the job done against Bournemouth and got a result away at Chelsea, but they did have spells in both games where they were under par.

They are still not where they’d want to be.

They’ve brought in Endo in midfield, and Mac Allister’s avoided a suspension – that really looked like he was pulling out of the challenge on Ryan Christie, you could give him a booking for it but there’s no way it was a red card, so I’m glad it was overturned –  but I’d expect more transfer activity before the window closes at Anfield.

I’m expecting this to be tight game and could see a draw, but I fancy both teams will score.

Mo Salah’s always a favourite for me, and for good reason. I’ll take him on Sunday again to hit the target.

I expect his to be an end to end game, and usually you can see a few tackles flying as teams try to get back into position.

Bruno Guimaraes in Newcastle’s midfield might have to make a few interventions and give away some free-kicks when Liverpool attack.
