The weekend is here, we are done with work for a few precious days so it’s now time to sit down and enjoy a great feast of Friday night footy. We’ve got action from the Bundesliga, La Liga and even the Championship to enjoy.

Over in La Liga we have Real Mallorca versus everyone’s favourite yellow-kit wearing team Villareal. A couple of hours later and then have Valencia looking to continue their unbeaten start at home to Las Palmas.

The Championship serves up a feast of former Premier League teams with Leeds hoping to take points off West Brom and improve on what’s been a poor start for them. Then we have another face formerly of the Premier League with Harry Kane and his Bayern Munich team on the road at Werder Bremen but will the Englishman get off to a bang in his first start.

6:30pm: Real Mallorca v Villarreal

Over 1.5 Goals

The odds of this first leg might not be massive but they’re enough to get us underway with a bet we can be confident of landing. We’re backing Over 1.5 goals in Real Mallorca vs Villarreal as both teams play their second game of the new La Liga campaign. Mallorca were involved in a 1-1 draw last weekend, while Villarreal lost 2-1 to Betis. The good news for us is that in both of those games the teams managed to score and concede.

While we can’t truly trust stats from last season to make arguments for bets in the new season, it is worth noting that 57.9% of Real Mallorca’s games had Over 1.5 Goals, as did a huge 76.3% of Villarreal’s matches. We’ll be backing at least two goals in this clash on Friday.

7:30pm: Werder Bremen v Bayern Munich

Harry Kane to Score Anytime

After signing for Bayern Munich we saw Harry Kane make his debut for the Bavarian club from the bench in Saturday’s defeat to RB Leipzig. He didn’t notch but it’s hard to blame him given the team were playing badly and he’d barely had time to get to know his new teammates.

It’s almost certain we’ll see Kane from the start here in Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga season opener against Werder Bremen. Last year they averaged nearly two goals given up per game and Bayern with all their excellent attackers will be confident of supplying Kane with the opportunities to score on his first start.

Bayern Munich -1

As is the norm now Bayern won the Bundesliga last season despite a managerial change and some struggles at times. They still managed to score 92 goals in just 34 games and conceded less than anybody in the league.

They start their season against a Werder Bremen team who were low scoring and high conceding last year. With their new number nine up front they will instantly be more dangerous than the team led by Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting last season. The score across both Bundesliga games was 8-2 last season and I can see Bayern winning by a big margin here, so I’m taking Bayern Munich -1.

8pm: Leeds v West Brom

Both Teams to Score

Our first bet in Friday’s Championship game between Leeds and West Brom sees us backing Both Teams to Score. While Leeds lost 1-0 to Birmingham on Saturday their previous two games had been high scoring. Indeed they drew 2-2 with Cardiff on the opening day and even gave up a goal to Shrewsbury in their EFL Cup victory over the minnows.

West Brom have scored and conceded in all three of their games this season, winning one and losing one in the Championship and failing to progress in the EFL Cup. Both teams are more than capable of scoring and have some attacking talent but both teams do have defensive issues that they haven’t solved yet, which bodes well for us and BTTS.

Ethan Ampadu to Commit Two or More Fouls

It felt like a real statement of intent when Leeds signed Ethan Ampadu to help them get back into the top flight. The Welshman had a strange series of loans before this move, as many Chelsea youngsters do but now has a chance to really lay down roots. He’s arguably been one of the team’s better performers through two weeks but we’re backing him to commit two or more fouls here.

He’s picked up two yellow cards already this season as he’s played a holding role for Leeds. It’s a difficult position in a team who don’t defend as a unit which leads him to having to make last ditch and 50/50 challenges. He may only have averaged one foul per game but he’s averaging 3.5 tackles in the league and puts himself about in the tackle. Given his start and the role he’ll be playing against WBA we’re backing the 44-cap midfielder to foul twice here.

8:30pm: Valencia v Las Palmas

Valencia to Win

Valencia were awful last season and were fortunate not get relegated from La Liga. Had they dropped a division then they’d have traded places with Friday night opponent’s Las Palmas. Las Palmas got off to a reasonable start in La Liga picking up a point against Mallorca. Despite dominating possession they did only manage two shots on target in the game, which is a concern against a Valencia team who look to have improved in the offseason.

Valencia picked up a win on the road at Europa League champions Sevilla, beating them 2-1 and taking 10 shots in the game. Despite being the away team they deserved their win and a frustrated Sevilla ended up with a late red card. I think given that they’re at home and come into this full of confidence we should see Valencia turn over the newly promoted Las Palmas.
