Liverpool vs Bournemouth

Liverpool -2

Liverpool famously beat Bournemouth 9-0 in the corresponding fixture last season and while a repeat of that result is unlikely on Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s side should enjoy a comfortable afternoon at Anfield.

Both Liverpool and Bournemouth opened their Premier League campaigns with 1-1 draws, with the Cherries taking a point at home to West Ham and the Reds drawing against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Klopp’s side looked sharp against Chelsea, especially in the first half, and they are red-hot favourites to record their first win of the season against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Bournemouth are a team in transition under Andoni Iraola and it may take some time before the Spanish manager can properly implement his system. It wouldn’t be surprising to see Bournemouth ship a few heavy defeats against the bigger teams in the league in the early days of the season.

Mohamed Salah to Score Anytime

Mohamed Salah was unlucky not to open his account at Stamford Bridge last weekend, firing an excellent right-footed effort against the crossbar and seeing a goal chalked out for a narrow offside call.

The Egyptian forward looked sharp on the opening day, providing a pinpoint pass for Luis Dias’s goal. He will be desperate to open his account on Saturday and is the most likely player to get on the scoresheet. Salah scored 30 goals in all competitions last season, at least twice as many as any other Liverpool player, and he remains their biggest threat in front of goal.

Amazingly, Liverpool’s Egyptian King did not score in last year’s 9-0 win over Bournemouth and later ballooned a penalty high and wide in a shock 1-0 defeat against the Cherries that derailed Liverpool’s top four push.
He will be itching to make amends on Saturday.

Wolves vs Brighton

Both Teams to Score

Wolves were excellent in their opening day defeat against Manchester United and could have won the game by at least three goals if they knew how to put the ball in the back of the net. However, the chances they created can only have encouraged new manager Gary O’Neil and they will provide plenty of problems for Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Brighton looked their usual free-flowing selves in their opening day win over Luton, but it is hard to know whether that is because of Brighton’s brilliance or simply because Luton are not cut out for the Premier League.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side scored four times in that opening day win and could have scored several more. It’s hard to see them drawing a blank at Molineux.

Wolves, meanwhile, will hope to open their Premier League account on Saturday and should find the back of the net if they can create similar chances to the ones they created at Old Trafford.

Joao Pedro to have 2 or More Shots on Target

It may be early days, but the signing of Joao Pedro looks like an incredibly shrewd piece of business from Brighton. Pedro was excellent in Brighton’s win over Luton, scoring once and being involved throughout. He managed four shots on his Premier League debut for the Seagulls, with Brighton recording 27 shots and 12 shots on target.

They will not have as much joy against Wolves, but they still should provide the Wolves defence with plenty of problems and Pedro should be one of the chief tormenters. He is decent value to have at least two efforts on goal.

Fulham vs Brentford

Under 3.5 Cards

The opening weekend of the Premier League season saw a flurry of cards in most games due to new directives that referees should be quicker to book players for dissent and time-wasting. However, neither Fulham nor Brentford were really impacted by that new directive, with Brentford receiving just one booking and Fulham receiving two.

Brentford were the fourth-best disciplined side in the league last season, collecting 54 bookings and one red card in 38 league games. Fulham, on the other hand, found themselves in mid-table in the league’s disciplinary table, with 80 yellow cards and one sending off.

They were generally well-disciplined, aside from when they collectively lost their heads against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final last March. Saturday afternoon should see a fairly mild-tempered London derby.
