After a long summer trying to find new hobbies we can finally do what we love most, get back to enjoying the Premier League. There’s a bumper slate of EPL action this Saturday with four matches in the 3pm slot and some fascinating storylines.

We have Bournemouth hosting the Declan Rice-less West Ham. The East London club might be undergoing an identity crisis now that their best player has left and Man City are making overtures for their creative Brazilian Lucas Paqueta.

Then we have two matches featuring Premier League new boys. Sheffield United welcome Crystal Palace to Bramall Lane and it really feels like a game that could go either way given that Roy Hodgson’s Palace side have lost Wilfried Zaha to Turkey and Michael Olise to injury.

We also have Luton back in the top flight for the first time since the 1991/1992 season but the Hatters are going to have a tough ask on the road against a formidable Brighton side.

Then last but not least we have Everton, the Premier League’s immovable object against Fulham. Fulham have managed to keep hold of Marco Silva and Aleksandar Mitrovic which is a huge boost ahead of their trip to Merseyside.

Bournemouth vs West Ham

Tomas Soucek to Commit 2 or More Fouls

The Declan Rice transfer saga was one of the longest in recent memory but it’s now over with Rice switching East for North London. That leaves Tomas Soucek as the main man in the West Ham midfield.

Last season the Czech star was a key man in David Moyes’ team and racked up an average of 1.4 fouls per game in the Premier League. That was of course, alongside Rice, who was the best midfielder outside of the league’s top clubs. We don’t really know who’s going to be playing alongside Soucek with any certainty. David Moyes would like that man to be James Ward-Prowse but he won’t be on the field at 3pm on Saturday. Whoever gets the nod will be a significant downgrade on Rice and I can see Soucek having to commit more fouls with a less talented player alongside him.

Both teams to Score, No

Looking at the previous season’s matches is no sure thing when it comes to making correct picks but it’s the first Saturday of a new Premier League season, so we have little else to go on.

Last season BTTS failed to land in 57.9% of Bournemouth’s home games, with this fixture last term seeing just West Ham scoring. Not only that but BTTS failed to land in 63.2% of West Ham’s games on the road last season as David Moyes looked to shut up shop and protect his own goal. In fact, in West Ham’s last eight Premier League games away from home there were only two games in which both sides actually scored.

Brighton vs Luton

Evan Ferguson to Score

Ireland have a real gem on their hands with 18-year old Evan Ferguson. He broke out last season scoring six goals for Brighton as they exceeded all expectations. That said he only started 10 games in the Premier League, coming from the bench on other nine occasions.

He’s now ready to take that leap and become the club’s main frontman and I’m expecting a huge season from him, as the Premier League’s biggest clubs continue to monitor his progress. I’m backing him to score against Premier League debutant’s Luton.

Everton vs Fulham

Amadou Onana to be Shown a Card

Death, taxes and Amadou Onana making rash tackles. The Belgian is Everton’s best player and has been linked with big money moves away from Merseyside but fortunately for Sean Dyche he’ll be lining up at Goodison on Saturday.

With a full preseason behind him I’m expecting Dyche to have gotten this Everton team even more organised and tougher too. That would bode well for a card for Onana who picked up nine bookings last season in the Premier League. With the transfer window still open for a couple more weeks he might even be playing to impress any watching clubs.

Sheffield United vs Crystal Palace

Under 2.5 Goals

Sheffield United fans can’t be looking forward to the new season very much. They’ve lost Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille and Sander Berge to Burnley, while also losing their talented loanees who were so instrumental in promotion.

That Ndiaye loss in particular is huge, especially given that Rhian Brewster is injured and Benie Traore has missed the bulk of preseason after a work permit issue when he signed. I’m not expecting their attack to be firing in this game against a Roy Hodgson team who have lost attacking talent of their own.

The talismanic Wilfried Zaha has left the club and Michael Olise is injured. Those are a lot of goals to replace in a team who generally struggle to score. With both teams on paper looking like they’ll struggle to find the back of the net we’ll go for Under 2.5 Goals here.
